I'm switching back to Android from the iPhone 13 Pro Max to the Galaxy S22 Ultra as my daily. Love its fast, fluid UI and excellent camera system. Trading incredible battery life and the superb Watch S7 Edition, but the S22U also feels so much better in the hand.

So after roughly two weeks of blind tests the winner of my Pixel 6 Pro, iPhone 13 Pro Max and Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra comparo is…the Galaxy S21 Ultra! It took out 9 of 16 rounds. The Pixel 6 Pro was second winning 5 rounds. Last winning just 2 rounds was the iPhone 13 Pro Max.

On the left we have the Moto Edge 30 Fusion ($599) and on the right we have the Pixel 7 Pro ($899). Despite being priced cheaper, the Moto has a 10-bit native P3 display and the Pixel 7 Pro just an 8-bit sRGB display that uses dithering to emulate P3 colour. Same wallpaper too.

So my Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra turned up today. This thing is huge - the size of a fully fledged laptop. My initial impression is this is the closest thing yet to a mobile-based OS tablet that can genuinely be considered as a laptop replacement thanks to Samsung DeX on this scale.

When iPads first launched, 10 hour battery life was revolutionary. Over a decade later, battery life is still rated 10 hours. With MacBooks offering over twice that now, I’m over it. Some Samsung tabs get over 15 hours. C’mon Apple!

Four days into using the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1-powered @Xiaomi #12sultra and I have only charged it twice so far. This includes leaving it on overnight. TSMC's process has transformed this chip. It is right up there with iPhone 13 Pro Max for battery life.

An S23 Ultra moonshot taken at 8am local time in daylight. So much for the "It's all AI/fake" bullshit. You can clearly see here how dependent it's imaging of the moon at night is on *optical* light (brightest object in night sky), not AI, to get those details.

So I ended up getting the Sky Blue Galaxy S23 Ultra 12GB/512GB model. Got a great deal on it, including getting an extra $300 AUD off the price thanks to Samsung rewards points for previous purchases. Might take slightly longer to get to me, but the wait will be worth it!

Something people forget, is that Apple is crushing the Android competition on SoCs with just 6 cores (only 2 of which a P-cores) versus 8 cores. Not only that, they are also more power efficient to boot. Their E-cores are incredible. Apple’s chips are just on another level.

I know that benchmarks aren’t everything and the Android phone (Galaxy S22 Ultra) does not even run the best Snapdragon processor, but damn. The gap in CPU between Apple’s SoC and other SoCs got even bigger this time, even when compared to Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 or Dimensity 9000+.

Fun fact: Those lens element shots you see OEM's use to highlight their cameras? Most are made from plastic. Only the new Oppo Find X5 Pro, Sony Xperia Pro-I and Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra use a real glass front element. Oppo⬇️says it reduces chromatic aberration by up to 77%.

After 20 rounds we have a winner! Wide, ultra-wide, telephoto, macro cameras were all tested over a wide range of situations and lighting conditions. Just 20 points separated the field with all phones scoring at least 4 outright round wins.
