Many atheists are asking how an atheist scientist (me) could convert to Christianity. It was not due to any crisis. First, evidence from physics and biology convinced me that philosophical materialism is an incomplete worldview, and then I had a direct experience of Jesus Christ.

A few years ago a childhood friend found me on facebook. We met because our parents were friends, ex-communist party members and strong atheists. My old friend wrote “You wont believe it, I became a Christian”. I answered, “You won’t believe it, me too”

When I first read parts of the Bible as an atheist, I scoffed. I saw it as magical, mythological, unscientific. After I became a Christian I read it again, this time with the Holy Spirit, & saw the truth & beauty of Scripture. Let the Spirit always be your guide, as Jesus said.

Atheists can no longer rely on science as a reason to disbelieve in God. The more we learn in biology and physics, the more we find pointers to divinity.

I was full of rage and hatred for 30 years. A Christian told me I should forgive my tormentors. “Never” I said. And then, I did. A great stone was rolled away from my heart, leaving a space. And in that space, a short time later, Christ entered, and I was saved.

I chose to believe in Christ. It wasn't foisted on me by parents or peers or society. I found that scientists had learned that nature defies human logic. This allowed me to be open to the possibility of God. But it was the person of Jesus Christ who brought me to faith.

When I was a child, my Dad gave me a chemistry set. I ignored the instruction book, & mixed all the chemicals together. Nothing happened just a grayish brown mess. "Chemistry doesn't work" I told him. This what I think of when told that "studies have shown prayer doesnt work".

It’s a mistake to conflate atheism with science. Nobody uses God to answer scientific questions about the world of nature. Christians (like me) use science to answer scientific questions. We turn to our faith to answer the “why" questions that science is not built to address.

I don't believe in God because of what we don't know (God of the gaps), but because of what we do know about the universe through science. Don't confuse God with the magical gods of pre-Christian pagans. God created the natural laws that explain how His creation works.

The entire notion that science and faith are in opposition is the most insidious big lie of modern times. I believe that a true understanding of the scientific worldview leads directly to a belief in God. This has happened to many people, including me.

Christ came to teach us something that science has not yet discovered. Love is at the center of everything.

Before a tsunami, the ocean retreats. Many young people have left the Church, but I believe they will return en masse, creating a tsunami of renewed faith, triggering the third Great Awakening in the US and Europe. It has already begun in Africa and Asia. Christ is Lord of all.

Brothers and Sisters: lets preach the good news! Go tell it on the mountain, over the hills, on Twitter and Facebook, YouTube and Zoom, in videos and podcasts, in books and magazines, on the radio and everywhere. Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior. Glory to God, Amen.
