it’s funny to me how the fandom doesn’t recognize why scara and dottore are in conflict right now. it’s not really the experiments, as scara refused to do anything against him even when the godhood project failed. all of the goading from the traveler and paimon were rejected

the phrasing of scara’s line here implies that the traveler shared with him what ei told them. yet we can see that scara doesn’t really accept ei’s summary of her intentions when she left him in the shakkei pavilion. the misunderstanding between them isn’t the only problem here

there is a sad irony in dottore trying to prevent scara being accepted as a human in inazuma out of envy & possible fear of losing companionship of someone he thought was alike only for scara to end up being accepted in dottore’s own homeland more than him

the fandom seems to have picked up on how suspicious it is that dottore let scara go (when the fatui modus operandi is to just eliminate anyone that has knowledge of their secrets, even their ordinary operatives). which…about time when nahida herself explicitly said this:

some people hc dottore as “yearning” for scara based on how nahida frames dottore as a "lone" monster who stares at his reflection, seemingly convinced that he couldn't ever fit in & be accepted as himself. scara is first introduced in the tale as a solace bringer to dottore

the fandom has a very bad habit of blaming scaramouche’s sins on dottore when scara himself does not (and neither the game does through the traveler, paimon, or nahida). it negates scara’s own character arc and agency to do so. scara would find it terribly insulting

whether dottore admits or not, some part of him is heavily implied to have been hurt when scaramouche was accepted despite both of them being eccentric and odd. he’s nowhere as neutral or detached as he would like others to believe

as you can tell, there’s a resemblance here. what both ghanta and vajra represent in such practices is dualistic, especially in tibetan buddhism

however, they make different impressions on people. scara keeps to himself, perching on branches and high elevations, observing but not involving himself if he can help it. he’s known in the akademiya for his biting critiques & largely is with others if they’re dragging him along

scara is referred to as a “wanderer” whereas sethos is described by others as a “traveler” walking on his chosen path, which is one of the things nahida wished for scara

then why acknowledge and address him by an abbreviation of his fatui code name? not one single “wanderer” in sight we don’t live in teyvat and irminsul is not a real thing to us. we, as audience members, narratively can recognize he was a harbinger for most of his life

Anytime people post about these 2 harbingers being playable, there will be people saying "ok what about Scara" SCARAMOUCHE IS GONE. NO ONE REMEMBERS HIM. HE. IS. NOT. A. HARBINGER. OR FATUI. ANYMORE. EVEN HIS DRIP ART ISN'T HARBINGER SYMBOLS.

one of the interesting facets of dottore and scara’s relationship is how dottore can’t fully control scara’s worldview. he can lie & mislead yet scara doesn't chiefly see the world through the lens of acceptance vs rejection (as dottore does) but through betrayal and abandonment

sethos himself was a vessel for the powers in question for many years and might have faced the brunt of that judgement if the nature of his existence was more well-known. he seems to have largely avoided this in canon however

sethos’ stories first begin with highlighting his introduction to sumeru city & his new place within it. he’s — in a lot of ways — a newcomer, just as scara is. this is something that sethos himself points out by inquiring if he’s a foreign exchange student & the style of his hat

ei somewhat coming off as apologetic in cn (and like someone who is aware they committed a mistake) whereas english ei feels…indifferent

scara as a character has been defined by his emptiness for a very long time in lore. he had obsessed for centuries over his lack of heart (whether it be a gnosis or a human heart)

@eoyorha don’t even joke with me here…the parallelisms that could be spotted in sethos’ character stories alone caught me by the throat
