I’m very disappointed in @WesternU for abandoning its mandatory masking policy in instructional spaces. And why would this change be made in the middle of a term when faculty, staff and students have been relying on the policy?

@NC_Renic Thinking that departing senior scholars will be replaced by early-career counterparts is a myth at many schools. More likely to be replaced by a string of over-worked and under-payed adjuncts with no allocated time for research and writing, much less any support for conferences.

@David_Moscrop Some questions are being raised in this thread about whether defunding Catholic schools (more precisely consolidating the separate and public systems) would be constitutional. It would be a simple process, @drbillirwin and I wrote about that in 2018

@JoeyColeman A very bad idea. What are reporters going to do, spill coffee on the carpet? This will discriminate against indys, small media outlets and student journalists. If Hamilton is anything like #LdnOnt (where I’m a new Councillor),we need more, not less, coverage of our city meetings.

@CBCLondon Stop blaming poor and homeless people for the woes of the deteriorating #LdnOnt core. The ravages of excessive vacancies is caused by land speculators, avaricious landlords, and a complacent city administration. It’s time to demand conversions to affordable residential uses.

@imgrund @fordnation Schools don’t “move online”. A shift to online teaching happens because academic staff goes to significant extra work and planning to make the “move” happen. This skilled labour should not be invisible, so we should drop the fiction that schools move online or anywhere else.

Expanding #LdnOnt ’s cycling network is consistent with all of these other goals you mention. We’ve waited too long to plan & implement a network that’s usable and safe for all ages. It will benefit all Londoners, will be cost effective, and must be a priority for the new council.

Many Londoners are worried about “covering daily living expenses”. City Council needs to stay focused on meeting the basic needs of the people. This is not the time to be discussing cycle lanes. We need to focus on small business survival, safety, public transit and housing.

It’s appalling that the @globeandmail declined to publish this excellent refutation to the piece they ran attacking public libraries. They really owe their readers an explanation.

I'm seeing a lot of very negative stereotypes being posted now about @WesternU students. It's very unfair as student leaders like @MitchellPratt10 & @channydang have taken measures to create top quality alternative programming. I live in B'dale, & really appreciate their efforts.

@kmtani @tnarecha This is indeed horrifying. In Berkeley (my former home)? Is no where in the US safe?

@HomeSpaceyyc We need these vacant-office-to-affordable-housing conversions in #LdnOnt . It should be a priority for the new council. The unhealthy glut of vacancies in the core needs to be re-purposed into productive uses, and this Calgary project provides a good model for us to look at.

@ct_degroot @WesternU It’s very disappointing to say the least. There’s just nothing interesting, much less sensational, about the university carrying forward their previous policies on masking and vaccinations. And most people being quietly ok, if not happy about it , doesn’t seem newsworthy either.
