How much we pay for an item worth 1000. Item price 1000. It has 18% GST Total Cost 1000+180=1180 I am in 20% Income Tax bracket If I earn 1489.90 I will have to pay IT of 297.98 & 4% Cess 11.92 = 1180 So to buy an item Rs 1000, I need to earn Rs 1489.90. So I paid 48.99% tax
