My husband died last night. We were together 31 yrs. I found him collapsed in his shop, did CPR until ambo arrived, they weren't able to revive him. I'm stuck in rural WY in winter w/property I can't maintain alone. No kids, no family nearby, I don't know what to do

Had a whole team of people at the house today. A friend & his 3 boys did all the snow removal, including digging out the pasture gates, the deck, and a path to the chickens. They brought firewood in the house up & down, & hauled in a 40lb bag of dog food. Another neighbor brought

My Dad died this morning. It's probably a blessing because he wasn't doing well at all. He's the one who taught me to be strong and independent, that women can do anything they want, taught me hunting and fishing and wrenching on cars, and gave me my love of the outdoors 💔😢

meals, including soups, protein bars, some heat and eat meals prepared by a friend who is a chef, and a box of chocolate covered cherries. Then she hauled a bag of chicken food out to the girls and helped me feed them. Wyomingites really are the best.

In a gesture that made me cry, a friend-of-a-friend who works for the power company used a program they have to help people in need, and had $1500 applied to my electric/heat bill so I have one less thing to worry about. I don't even know how to express how grateful I am.

I forgot to take my meds all day yesterday and I'm paying for it today. Woke up to phone call from mortuary & I have to go there today to make arrangements. Need to make sure I'm taking care of myself. Fed and watered the chickens, out walking with Rebel.

My best Christmas present is that my onc used the words NED today after viewing my scan results. Still a couple microscopic spots too small to measure, but after 3+ years of steady progression, I was told I would never reach this point. Thank you Enhertu, 28 months and counting.

Not a bad day for my first birthday alone - lots of visitors, two birthday cakes, two bouquets of flowers, some lavender sage soap and bath bomb. With a trip to the grocery store to lay in supplies before the big storm, calls and texts with family, my day was full & I'm grateful

Today is a hard day for us. We still went outside 2x to play in the snow, but Rebel is mostly staying curled up right next to me. Finally got a little sleep last night, but no motivation & it's snowing again, so more work to do to stay on top of it. Maybe tomorrow. Puppy is sad.

Got scan results- again no evidence of metastatic disease (NED). Thank you @Enhertu After 3 years of nothing working, this drug has been a miracle for me. 2.5 years on it now. 🙏☺️

My Dad is in ICU due to continued brain bleeds & dangerously high blood pressure. It's not looking good. Not sure how I'm supposed to deal with all this stress in my life. At least my sisters are handling everything with my parents, but it's hard to be far away w/my own problems

Please keep my family in your thoughts. Less than 12 hours after he was admitted into care facility, my father's brain started bleeding again and he became very combative. Back in hospital. Now I've got both of my parents in 2 separate hospitals on the other side of country. 😢

Well, I finally canceled his phone number and switched the account to my name. Seems so final. Making these phone calls is emotionally draining, but at least Verizon has been the easiest so far, and no waiting 45 min to speak to a rep, so they get an A+

This is the kind of thing I love about my cancer center - they have a program where caregivers can get a free massage or acupuncture every month. My social worker suggested listing the neighbor who drives me & does so much more as my caregiver. Now she's going to get a free

Next door neighbor spent a couple hours here out in the cold helping with some winter prep and clearing out one side of the shop of items that were too heavy for me to move alone so we could fit the truck inside for the winter. It's been a busy day and I'm exhausted, but grateful

My sister sent me a grief care package from @Comfortsoup - chicken noodle & tomato basil soups (2 servings each), fresh rolls, cookies, tea & honey, a silver ladle, a warm fuzzy blanket that made me cry, & a grief booklet. The food was wonderful, highly recommended

Made myself a bundt cake. It's from a box because that's all I have the energy for, but that's alright. I've lost 10 lbs that I couldn't afford to lose since my husband died. I'm eating more than usual, but burning a lot of calories with the snow removal & other stuff. So cake.

Chickens have all been rehomed. One escaped & we had to chase it in the snow. Met two absolutely wonderful women these past 2 days. The woman who came today stayed talking with me for hours. Felt good to make some new friends and I'm starting to feel like part of the community.

My palate cleanser is a rescue dog who had no house manners. He ate my leather furniture, 5 computer mouses, a dozen TV remotes, countless books, and still likes to shred toilet paper. He often chooses not to listen to a word I say. And he counter surfs!

I found a home for the chickens. I reached out to a neighbor who is a member of the LDS Church because I knew she had extensive ties. Within 5 minutes she found someone who also has Wyandottes and has room for more. I'm going to miss my beautiful girls and their eggs. 🐔🥚

I love my morning walks with Rebel down this long country road. Today we walked further than usual, up to Black Bear Ranch, then turned around & continued walking another half mile past our house. Birds, cows, horses. Thundering, storm is coming in.

2nd day of shoveling. Younger neighbor stopped by with Christmas gift - a self care kit and and sea salt caramels. She helped me change the mop head I've been struggling with for 2 days. Another neighbor is plowing the driveway. Chili in the crockpot. I feel blessed.

It warmed up to a high of 18°F today, so our walks were shorter. My face was freezing. Can't wear a scarf because it fogs my glasses. Enjoyed Christmas dinner and a pleasant afternoon with neighbors, lots of good food and company.

Rebel's shelter name was Rum (brother was Whiskey) but I couldn't imagine yelling for Rum 😄 We figured he was young enough for name change, but wanted to stay with R. Since he broke 2 leashes, destroyed his $$ dog bed, ate every remote, pen, mouse, photo, book, Rebel fit him

We had a productive day thanks to anti-nausea steroids - mopped floors, did laundry, some cleaning, threw some stuff out, handled some financial stuff, call with social worker, and went for several puppy walks even though it was slippery.

Struggling today. It's my chemo "crash" day & I don't feel well at all. I'd usually rest/sleep all day but now I can't. Slept until 9:30 when Rebel woke me up to go out. No such thing as an easy day anymore, lots to do. But I'll find a way. I really miss him right now.

Chemo side effects hit me hard this afternoon. They are always worse when I skip a round. Probably doesn't help that I didn't sleep much past 2 nights, plus all the shoveling this morning. Feeling pretty rough 😕 Thankfully Rebel is settled down chewing on a marrow bone

I knocked a gate off the hinges trying to get it unstuck from the ice and snow. Took me half an hour to get the hinges lined up and gate back in place. On the plus side, it's a balmy 31°F and I worked up a sweat. Rebel supervises.
