No matter what your political viewpoint, the Oklahoma Legislature’s lack of transparency should concern you. Prohibiting debate and questions, substituting the entire body of a bill by floor amendment, and closed-door caucus meetings are the tools of authoritarian states.
My 4 kids go to Oklahoma public schools. I have never once thought they were being "indoctrinated." You know what I worry about? Their classes are too big, and their teachers keep leaving for Texas. I'm planning to vote for

Funny that I see a number of our OK state legislators complaining about a “missed” call in a football game, but no one at the Capitol was interested in addressing actual missed revenue from a public university putting its athletics budget ahead of every other state priority. 🤷♂️
Leadership is hard. Sometimes you have to clean up a mess you didn’t make before you can forge a path forward. Sometimes you end up leading through grief more than into glory. These guys understand that better than most, and I’m proud to have them as part of our community.

I agree that OSU’s tailgate should be a model, but there are a couple of major factors that can’t be duplicated: one of the country’s most beautiful campuses and America’s Friendliest College Town. The scene depends heavily on the environment, and there’s only one Stillwater.

Bill Haisten: As OU strives for a better tailgate, OSU is a perfect role model. Both in scope and spirit, Oklahoma State has one of the more impressive tailgate cultures in college football. via
@tulsaworld
Just so we’re clear: an asst. coach (under a former HC) took a personal bribe and broke the law with no benefit to OSU or the players, was immediately fired, and OSU fully cooperated in the investigation, yet current coaches and players are hit with an unprecedented penalty? 🤷♂️
Wow: OSU’s ban is believed to be the first in NCAA history wherein a school has received a ban without being assessed one of these five major violations: head coach responsibility charge; lack of institutional control; failure to monitor; any recruiting violation; academic fraud.

Yep, these are the VERY same lawmakers who have said for 2 years gov’t should stay out of “personal medical decisions” like wearing a mask or being vaccinated. But now they’re jumping up and down to enforce their own beliefs on your personal/family decisions. Which is it? 🤷♂️
LATEST UPDATES on the efforts to ban gender affirming care for youth in Oklahoma. The governor's now backing the push which has come with a new sense of urgency, despite programs like OU's Roy G. Biv operating for years.

provided wonderful service to the Stillwater community as part of their visit. Excited to have such a positive addition to the conference.
But the state legislature can pass a law with zero notice that the issue will be discussed, while prohibiting any debate about the bill by our elected representatives. That’s not a representative democracy, it’s authoritarian rule.

This makes me sad. Students, you’re part of a larger community. One that is struggling with an over-full hospital and rampant COVID cases. Please make choices that respect the people around you and protect our whole community.
These kinds of abuses are possible in Oklahoma because we are one of only four states where sunshine laws don’t apply to the legislature. Our city council can’t even discuss an issue unless it’s posted in advance on a public agenda. That’s how it should be.
The front section of the

Today, I am excited to announce that I am running for re-election as Stillwater’s mayor. My four years in this position have been a roller-coaster ride (to say the least), and we have all faced unprecedented times over the past several months. ...
The Oklahoma House of Representatives passed a bill today that strips local control during health emergencies and gives that power to the governor. When you hear people campaign on "local control" and "small government", check how they voted on SB1102.

: The Tonkawa Tribe is bringing a 60,000 sqft entertainment facility to Stillwater! The HUB will be located at Perkins and Airport Rd: 16 bowling lanes, 4 movie theaters, an 80-game arcade, a sports bar, 12 PICKLEBALL COURTS and a food venue.
The Stillwater City Council meets tomorrow evening. Pandemic response, including a potential ordinance to allow more opportunity for outdoor service by bars, is on the agenda. I am also evaluating other possible actions through emergency declaration, if necessary.
This is the west conf room at Stillwater Med Ctr. The SMC board met here tonight because we’re not allowed remote meetings anymore. But this weekend the carpet will be ripped up and temp ER beds will be moved in to accommodate COVID patients when the ICU is full. 1/
I made a delivery this morning to the COVID units and ICU at Stillwater Medical Center and had the chance to thank the heroic healthcare workers who are spending their holidays caring for our community. (thread...)
At breakfast yesterday morning, my daughter asked, “Since it’s Saturday, can you just be a kid for the day?” I asked what that meant. “No phones, all day!” So I turned my phone off, and we played on the trampoline, went fishing, and watched a movie.

I spoke to a good friend of mine yesterday, who is a doctor at Stillwater Medical. He spends all of his time these days treating hospitalized COVID patients, and a big part of that time is devoted to talking to the families of patients who have died or are dying. (thread...)
Just a reminder that public schools in Oklahoma are governed by elected local school boards, and this bill is supported by the same legislators that scream and shout about "Federal overreach" and "local control." What they really mean is "we should be the only ones with control."

The causes of mass violence in this country are complex, but easy access to firearms is certainly a major contributing factor. To dismiss that demonstrates gross ignorance at best. We should have every option on the table to protect our children and stop playing political games.
Tasting notes: light as Cade’s floater in the lane, crisp as Barry’s stop-on-a-dime cutback, with a hint of the O’Brate outfield grass, and the depth of a defensive lesson from Mr. Iba.
In short, it tastes like home. Fantastic work

Just a quick reminder that Stillwater's mask ordinance remains in place. It is set to expire on May 25. This date coincides with the end of the school semester, and it ensures a consistent approach in our community, on campus, and in our schools.
Stillwater now has 94 new cases of COVID-19 since June 1. That number represents a 425% increase over our total infections prior to June 1. The state has also seen record increases in new cases.
I would love to see all the “extra” state money spent on something like making it possible to get your kid a driver’s license without having to trek all over the state to wait in hours long lines.
That’s just one idea. 🤷♂️
You might’ve heard that I’ve been calling for tax cuts.
The idea is simple. I believe you can spend your money better than the government.
We can afford it, we can do it responsibly— and we will do it without risking core services.

When we moved back to Stillwater nearly ten years ago, one of our main reasons was the sense of community. Stillwegians (yes, I made that term up😀) are caring, compassionate people who work hard and take care of each other. There's no place we'd rather raise our family.
The text of this bill is unbelievable. It prohibits the state and all public entities in the state from enforcing any Federal law or rule "that restricts a person's rights" OR that the AG or

The men and women of Stillwater Power, Water, Public Works, Fire, Police, Emergency Management and many others have been working tirelessly since yesterday morning to handle power outages, water leaks, fires, and numerous other issues related to the ongoing ice storm.
Denise Webber and the entire team at Stillwater Medical have been absolute heroes for our community. Please help them by getting vaccinated, wearing a mask, and doing what you can to keep from spreading Covid.
NEARING THE BREAKING POINT: I just spoke to Denise Webber, the President and CEO of Stillwater Med. I've talked with her multiple times throughout the pandemic and I've never seen her get emotional like this while talking about her team.
After consultation with local partners, and in recognition of the much-improved local numbers and the new CDC guidance, I have rescinded the emergency declaration related to the COVID pandemic In Stillwater. This also means the end of the mask ordinance, effective immediately.
The truth of the matter: they don’t know or care about the underlying medical, scientific, or personal issues at stake. They care about power and asserting their own personal beliefs on as many people as possible. That’s not freedom, and it is not the American way.
Monday, June 8: 3 new cases
Tuesday, June 9: 1 new case
Wednesday, June 10: 3 new cases
Thursday, June 11: 6 new cases
Friday, June 12: 12 new cases
Total: 25 new COVID cases in Stillwater
If you’ve been watching the numbers, you’ll know that we’ve seen increased cases across the state. Stillwater has also seen a significant increase in positive tests. After zero new cases since late March, we have 10 new cases in the last 10 days—nearly a 50% increase locally.
