We welcome the conclusion of the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention that Russia’s detention of Evan Gershkovich is arbitrary and violates international human rights law. We echo their call for Russia to release Evan immediately.

I've worked tirelessly to bring Hersh home, and Jill and I could not be more heartbroken by the news of his death. It is tragic and reprehensible. Hamas leaders will pay for these crimes. And we'll continue working towards a deal to secure the release of the remaining hostages.

Hersh Goldberg-Polin is an American hero who will be remembered for his kindness and selflessness. Our hearts break for Jon, Rachel, and their entire family, as well as the other families who found out today their loved ones won’t be coming home. May their memory be a blessing.

The world lost a beautiful soul 10 years ago today when journalist James Foley was murdered by ISIS. Jim was doing his job covering the horrors of the war in Syria. We honor his memory and the legacy built by Diane Foley @JamesFoleyFund to promote journalist safety, support

Two years ago today Ryan Corbett and Mahmood Habibi were taken captive in Afghanistan. Ryan, Mahmood, and George Glezmann have been held for far too long and their families have endured unimaginable pain. We will continue every effort to reunite them with their loved ones.

1/4 Today, a Russian court continued the closed trial of Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich. Evan has been wrongfully detained by Russian authorities on spurious charges for more than a year. Despite what the Russian authorities may claim, Evan is a journalist.

5/5 Russia should stop using individuals like Evan Gershkovich or Paul Whelan as bargaining chips.  They should both be released immediately.

4/5 We have been clear from the start that Evan has done nothing wrong and never should have been arrested in the first place. His case is not about evidence, procedural norms or the rule of law. It is about the Kremlin using American citizens to achieve its political objectives.
