I am a woman with Turner Syndrome, not a 'Turner Syndrome'. I have experienced various things in my life because I am female. I am profoundly grateful to the feminists who helped me understand this and who support me and other women with Turner Syndrome
@MayorofLondon
As a woman with a DSD - this is beyond unhelpful to people with DSDs. All it does is makes it more difficult to discuss our conditions and health needs
Woman with Turner Syndrome here. This is a beyond offensive take. Not only does Turner Syndrome have serious health implications I can tell you that getting diagnosed and having the condition explained is a life changing experience (not for better)
@NHM_London
@hstanley_
Hi I am a women with Turners Syndrome which means my karotype is XO- I and my friends with this condition are female. Please do not make our lives more difficult with tweets like this
@MuslimMemeGirl
Anyone who thinks a toddler need to be dressed like this is supporting the worse sort of child abuse. And this is not called for in Islam
@birdfacepower
@lisasevern
I need HRT because I have a DSD and without it I could develop cardiac issues and osteoporosis. I had significant issues when there were shortages two years ago. No 'natural med' could alleviate there. You are pushing a dangerous narrative
I know twitter can be awful but trolling survivors of female genital mutilation who are campaigning to end this horrific practice takes a particularly awful level of racism and misogyny. Thank you
@HiboWardere
and
@RadfemJana
and all the women who are campaigning on this issue
I will never forgive those on the 'left' or who style themselves as 'progressive' who have condoned or even worse stood by while women have been harrassed and intimidated for standing up for our rights . Please wake up before it is too late
@MargaretAtwood
Women around the world who once respected you continue to be concerned that you seem to not be grasping the erasure of women and the ability to fight for our rights. You see in the responses here you will never appease the mob so please regain your integrity and stand for women
Just seen a post by a Facebook friend about another young woman with Turner Syndrome who died as a result of aortic dissection. I really wish people who weaponise and misuse DSDs would understand what they actually involve and what people with DSDs have to deal with
So... Two tweets crossed my path today arguing that 'intersex' is a separate sex. Where to begin? There are over 40 different DSDs all of which have different medical implications and which are sex specific
@NorthWestCancer
This is incredibly inappropriate on several levels. Firstly you are objectifying women. Secondly you are erasing women and going against best practice in clear language in health education
Tbh I am having a difficult time not just dealing with legacy of my treatment as a teenager and behaviour of the 'support group ' but with a few health issues that are a direct result of my Turner Syndrome. Seriously this is beyond offensive
@BBCPolitics
As a woman with a DSD (Turner Syndrome) I want to say how offensive and badly informed Lloyd Russell-Moyle's behaviour is here. He knows nothing of the struggles of those with DSDs
@AlisonMoyet
I was just thinking earlier how grateful I am that I grew up in the 1980s with amazing women musicans like yourself showing what women could be and could achieve. Thank you
I am just going to say this - if anyone tries to erase the fact that Jane Austen and Charlotte Bronte directly spoke about the lack of rights and situation of women in their society pity for being born female - I will respond
@Finn_Mackay
Finn I remember you with gratitude for getting Reclaim the Night restarted and helping set up spaces that helped me understand the importance of namimg women I just feel so sad to see how far you have drifted into this anti woman ideology.
@JamieLRutter
Woman with Turner Syndrome (45XO) here -this is an absolutely appalllng and inaccurate piece . People with VSDs like myself are not separate sexes
@UncutLeeds
@Womans_Place_UK
@LeedsCC_News
Absolutely delighted this wonderful group is finally meeting in Leeds. They are sorely needed in a city which has such issues with violence against women you do nothing to deal with
@silvsmith0919
@francesweetman
@eva_kurilova
I am a woman (with Turner Syndrome (a DSD). Myself and my friends with Turner Syndrome have a completely different set of issues to men with Klinefelter's or women with CAIS. Lumping all the people with DSDs together as 'Intersex' is offensive and ignores what these DSDs involve
@jameelajamil
It would be good if those who criticise the LGB alliance could stop harrassing Black British lesbians and demanding they get fired and take women's concerns seriously
@mrjamesob
@vaughangething
The' toxicity' was the harassment and silencing of staff who questioned the affirmation model and who blew the whistle on what was going on. Cass makes this clear
@janeclarejones
Thanks for saying this - many of us with DSDs are reeling after the last few weeks and it is deeply appreciated that th way women with CAIS have been discussed by some is getting called out
@MargaretAtwood
Margaret please do not use materials that misrepresent people like myself with DSDs. I am sorry you have been subjected to such abuse in last day but this should make you more sympathetic to women who have had to deal with even worse abuse
There are so many amazing Black Radical Feminists here on twitter who have had to deal with horrendous abuse - usually from white men. I stand with them. They are amazing
Trying to group all these together as some sort of third sex is beyond othering and ignores the real issues those of us with dsds face. It is why some of us feel deeply uncomfortable about the use of the term intersex
Just a word- you can disagree respectfully but if you in any way agree with the abuse and smears JK Rowling has had to deal with over the last few days please look at yourself. She should not be having to deal with this harrassment
#IstandwithJKRowling
@AlanJZycinski
@FiLiA_charity
Shame on the misogynistic bullies trying to close down this vital conference which is truly intersectional and which raises up the voices of women and girls from around the world
My notifications have been going mad the last few days because people have discovered a brilliant thread
@FondOfBeetles
did in response to a badly informed thread by the Natural History Museum three and a half years ago! That is how good her ability to set out facts is
@Lachlan_Edi
@trudylynch64
Owen's statement on chromosomes shows a complete lack of understanding of what issues people like myself who have a different Karotype face and the trauma of getting diagnosed with a different Karotype
@ForwomenScot
@MhairiBlack
Oh for goodness sake
@MhairiBlack
stop perpetuating false statistics and narratives people like myself with DSDs. This is incredibly harmful to us.
@NWiser8
@Arachoid666
Simon Pegg actually said he is grateful to Graham and Arthur Matthews for giving him a break in Big Train in this week's Big Issue
@guardianopinion
No it was cancelled because people rightfully had safeguarding concerns and the deeply inappropriate nature of the material in the show. Why is the Guardian supporting this ?
@billybragg
@NewStatesman
Three women a week are murdered here in the UK.. thankfully no trans individual has been murdered here in three years. Three women a day in US are murdered by their male partners. An African American woman is murdered every 8 hours
@DrFrancesRyan
The replies you got were not abusive. They were making a point. Shame on you for attacking a domestic violence survivor who deals with misogynistic abuse and harassment here every day
@periodmovement
@Always
Using a term that dehumanises women and reduces them to a biological function is deeply problematic I cannot support you and along with many other women are deeply shocked by your language
@MetroUK
This is a scare story. This individual could use the toilet of their sex There are numerous recorded cases of girls being attacked in Unisex toilets in UK schools from the last year alone
Both Jane Austen and Charlotte Bronte had to fight to be taken seriously as writers and had constant financial struggles because they were born female . Charlotte Bronte died at a young age of pregnancy related complications. These foresisters have always inspired me
Seriously I am getting so frustrated with people with DSDs being used by people who have no knowledge of these conditions to further their arguments. They show they actually do not understand these conditions or what they involve for the people who have them
Jeez seen two threads today by individuals how have no connection to Turner Syndrome discussing if we are female. Myself and my friends are not some 'gotcha' - educate yourselves and actually respect us both as humans and females
@rafiazakaria
@polblonde
Joan has a long and respected track record of speaking up for women. Her last book 'Homegrown' looks in at issues of violence faced by women in all communities here in UK. Her work remains vital and relevant
@MyNottingham
Shame on you. You are supporting the silencing and harassment of women and stand against everything libraries are supposed to uphold. From a librarian.
