Before we proceed... Hi! I'm Soren. I started identifying as trans at 11, began hormones at 17, and underwent a bilateral mastectomy in June 2021, shortly after my 19th birthday. I've since made peace with my body & sex. I manage my dysphoria via mindfulness practice. (2/19)

Crane CTS did not care about my well-being. Despite their affirmation & performance, they did not want what's best for me. If this is extreme negligence, what is considered normal? What voices are we missing? Is this only the tip of the iceberg still? (18/19)

Of course, I wasn't going to sign my rights away without a guarantee that Crane CTS had taken measures against this sort of negligence. Here is my perfectly reasonable response, sent on October 15, 2021. I haven't heard from them since — it is now March 14, 2023. (17/19)

JUNE 22, 2021: I call the clinic's after-hours line when the bruising & swelling become unbearable. My grafts are lifting, too. It takes over an hour to page the on-call doctor, who dismisses me 3x. "I don't see what's wrong here." ATTACHED: The exact photos he saw. (6/19)

Now, while I am grateful for my body's healing and UTSW's amazing care, follow-up by Crane CTS was non-existent. Here is the email I sent them on July 6, 2021 — recounting what I've just summarized here, in detail. Please read it. (10/19)

@_Laura_Reynolds @RadiantMF Exactly!!! I kept quiet for over a year after this happened, because I was afraid I'd be ruining care for other trans people. It's sad and (very unfortunately) enabling of these shoddy practices. Thanks for your kind words.

@EmeraldCityMD @ImWatson91 Oh, absolutely. I attended a local support group ran by "trans elders" who offered family/affirmation. One of the attendees was a doctor who prescribed hormones right away. I saw several therapists who treated me as a novelty, or entertainment. The list goes on and on and on.

@blackisnocolor1 I appreciate the kind words, but Texas malpractice laws make this almost impossible to do. Some speculate that's why Crane moved to Texas, actually, after facing a number of suits in California.

There's been a lot of discussion about the status of my case, and I haven’t seen anybody get it right just yet. Truth is, early on in the case, the judge entered an order that put the case on pause for 60 days. This order conflicted with a Texas statute requiring that (a) the

@Duhmom2 Not to be confused with toxic positivity — mindfulness practice involves making peace with the present moment. Instead of letting feelings of depression/anxiety/dysphoria rule me, I accept and contextualize them. In other words, I feel... then I move on.

@blackisnocolor1 Regardless of whether or not what happened to me was negligence — the Texas payout cap ($250,000 I believe) is not enough for any lawyer to take it. That's part of the issue.

@RiggleElaine @MichaelTom1985 This is a super important piece of the puzzle. I watched my surgeon's informed consent videos, but she repeatedly reassured viewers that Crane CTS had below-average complication rates. It was a lot of "this likely won't happen to you" style fluff.

@elegationvain @oatsandmag I stopped taking hormones because of health — then stopped identifying as the opposite sex because of ethical concern, aka ideology. The discomfort was and is worth fighting sexism + creating the world I want to see, where sex-based shame isn't commonplace.

@AsheTheSatanist @HairyTutelary @delkreek_leaf @MediClit "The patient understood and accepted the risks..." No, I didn't. I had cognitive disabilities & mental health issues that my providers conveniently ignored. I know that's not captured well in this particular thread, but it's a common theme among detransitioners.

@grizwald87 @LittleMammith This is an interesting thought. I do think it's different, however, considering that you develop the blueprint of your body through physical experience. So how does one develop a blueprint for a body or body part they never had? It seems like a different question than amputation.
