Let’s chat about “being serious”.
Supporting the generative and broader digital art ecosystem on Bitcoin is only half of what our team at Singular does. Having come from Ethereum, our goal has also been to facilitate those that call other chains home to make the jump to Bitcoin.
The Rise and Fall of Long-form Generative Art
This is a piece we started writing at the beginning of the year. As we watch how the conversation has shifted with the introduction of generative art on Bitcoin and evolving narratives on other chains, now felt like the proper time

1/ Something we hear constantly from ETH collectors is, “How are Ordinals going? I feel like I don’t hear anything about them anymore.”
That’s a testament to the minimal BTC <> ETH community overlap, so let’s dive into just how active the digital art scene on Bitcoin is. 👇

First ever fully re-inscribed collection, consisting of every email and forum post written by Satoshi Nakamoto. Each sat carries three inscriptions, representing data, presentation, and art layers.
Let’s talk about pre-inscribing.
Bitcoin is the only chain where creating and minting all generative works in advance of a collection’s release is the norm. This applies to “long-form” works, curated works, and the vast majority of generative works we see inscribed today.

Now feels like a good time to mention the following...
Manufactured by
@Ordinals10K
is already fully inscribed.
Collectors will not have to pay to inscribe a work nor will high fees leading up to the halving get in the way of its release. 🧠
"With the state of digital art, so much resembles that of fast-fashion.
Works are shipped out rapidly from a conveyor belt and thrown into seas of endless content.
The pieces 'worn' are absent of heart and soul and dedication, often discarded soon after."

Happy New Year, Bitcoiners!
Now that it's January 1st, members in our Discord up to this point have been granted the "Torchbearer' role which may or may not come in handy for what we have planned in the new year.
Here's to more art on Bitcoin in 2024! 🧑🎨
Based on this, let’s look at the levels of on-chain art:
Tier 1: Third-party cloud
Tier 2: IPFS/Arweave
Tier 3: On-chain data / off-chain dependencies
Tier 4: All data and dependencies for work stored on-chain
Tier 5: In-chain/runtime art
9/
It's about that time!
The blind auction for PLASMATICS by
@thecolorblocks_
is now live and will last for 48 hours, closing on January 17th at 3:00 PM ET.
Prospective collectors can head over to the collection page to place a bid. 👇
For most on-chain works on Ethereum, this is the standard. There have also been some instances where packages like p5.js and three.js have been put onto Ethereum.
You can read more about how Art Blocks does it and they’re reasoning here:
18/
Originally sold to
@pixelpete
for 1.26 ETH after mint, it would go on to be sold to now-defunct fund Three Arrows Capital for 1,800 ETH.
Once 3AC went under, the Goose would later be sold
@Sothebys
in a highly-publicized auction for over $6 million to
@6529capital
.
19/
The Ordinals community was quick to jump on this, and for good reason.
The notion of off-chain assets or metadata doesn’t exist with Ordinals; the status quo for digital artifacts is that they are inscribed directly to Bitcoin in their entirety in their native format.
3/
In-chain/runtime art is the most technically complex to create.
We have not really seen any examples of it on Bitcoin yet to the degree of the above examples on Ethereum.
26/
The outcome of this generator being cc0 was as expected.
Thousands of people generated their own goose, a host of derivative projects popped up, and the timeline was filled with honks.
