One week ago I was diagnosed with testicular cancer after discovering a lump at the beginning of December. Early this morning I had successful surgery to remove the tumour and get to spend Xmas and New Year being spoiled by family and Andrew, before starting treatment in January.

Garni Temple in Armenia, a short drive from Yerevan! The (pagan) temple dates from 1st century AD, atop two sharp valley walls and fortified with a stone wall along third side. The whole site is a fortress. Great views of Azat Gorge and in the distance, Symphony of Stone. ๐Ÿ›๏ธ ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡ฒ

I drove from Baalbek to #Bcharre over the mountain road - which is basically the roof of the world. On the other side, I stayed in Bcharre and hiked the Kadisha Valley - around Qannoubine and into the gorge. Probably the most picturesque part of the trip. [7/8]

In #Baalbek I stayed at the stuck-in-time Palmyra Hotel (the list of famous people who have stayed here is endless), and stayed in the same room that Albert Einstein stayed in. The hotel has the best views of the ruins in Baalbek at sunset and sunrise. [5/8]

30 years ago, the FCDO lifted the ban on LGBT+ people serving openly in the diplomatic service. Today @PhilipRBarton has issued an apology to those who were affected by the ban. The FCDO is now a proud & inclusive employer of LGBT+ people.

I spent day three driving from Tyre, through Nabatieh, past Lake Qaraoun and through the Bekaa, with lunch in Taanayel, before heading to Baalbek. These pics are Beaufort Castle outside Nabatieh, which is notoriously unphotogenic, but has amazing views out toward the Golan. [4/8]

We've been in Cyprus just over a month - last weekend Andrew and I took a car and explored northern Cyprus and Kyrenia - 30 mins from home. Seafood was amazing, castle was huge, and the sunset was beaut! ๐ŸŸ ๐Ÿฐ ๐ŸŒ… ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡พ

From there I drove down to #Tyre , where I spent two nights. The corniche was alive and the beaches crowded, but as a history geek I nerded out over the Roman ruins - the necropolis, amazingly preserved hippodrome site, and the old harbour ruins. [3/8]

Data are clear that queer people migrate to create more dense populations. Ahead of disaggregated ONS releases later in year, easy to speculate about queer density in university districts (younger populations?) and urban centers (Lincoln looks like a gay mecca for Lincolnshire!).

A lot of LGBT+ households are headed by someone that members of household may not feel comfortable outing their sexual orientation or gender identity to.
