This is probably my biggest โmama I made itโ moment of my life so far ๐Never thought Iโd end up in the newspaper as a 4th year med student but Iโm not complaining ๐ญ
MAMA Iโm coming home!! ๐ญ๐ญBeyond blessed and excited to announce that I matched PM&R at Baylor College of Medicine. Thankful and grateful for everyone who has supported me on this journey. Wooo go

New headshots call for reintroductions! Hello again
#physiatry
twitter. My name is Sidney Okon and I am an MS3 interested in pursuing physiatry. Looking forward to connecting with more physicians, residents, and fellow applicants in the
#MedTwitter
community!
Only 3 weeks into my first
#pmr
rotation and Iโve already been involved in shockwave therapy, steroid, botulin, and PRP injections, and even worked with rehab patients learning to use new prosthetic limbs. I think Iโm at home ๐ฅฒ
I thought Iโd drop by Twitter to say that after a long and really stressful process that took months of contemplation, I withdrew my PM&R position and re-entered the match for a specialty that I felt has always been more in line with my passion (anesthesiology)โฆ
Hi everyone! My name is Sidney Okon and Iโm an MS3 at USF Morsani College of Medicine, very interested in physiatry. Iโm excited to be part of the
#medtwitter
community and network with others across the field!
Today on my away at
@UTHPMR
on rounds I somehow randomly ran into my high school anatomy teacher turned nurse who wrote my college LoR and I hadnโt spoken to since. I may or may not have needed a moment after he told my attending how proud he was of me as a 4th year now๐ฅน
The past month so far - in pictures. Canโt put in words how overwhelming it all is but to be able to say Iโm a medical doctor now is crazy. So blessed to say Iโm the first doctor in my family. The journey continues๐๐พ๐
Blessed to be able to close out an awesome 4 weeks of
#physiatry
at the amazing
@UTHPMR
and lead right into
#AAPMR2022
to present some research and meet both peers and leaders in the field at the same time. Helloooo Baltimore ๐
Better late than never-finished an amazing
#pmr
rotation at
@UTSW_PMR
and still shocked at how many conditions I saw from year 1 of med school that Iโd never seen before.Also didnโt expect to make friends along the way, but
@KevinKChin
was pretty awesome.On to
#Match2023
๐
And like that, ERAS is in โ crazy feeling clicking โsubmitโ and sending out 3 years worth of work. Excited though! Wishing everyone the best! โจ

#Match2023
What a weekend. From presenting research, to finally meeting so many of my
#physiatry
peers and idols in the field in person, this was one for the books. Until next time,
#AAPMR2022
I successfully matched and will be continuing my training as a PGY-2/CA-1 in anesthesiology! I just wanted to thank the entire PM&R community, whether they were peers, attendings I connected with here, or attendings I met while doing away rotations. I learned so much from it and-
24 hours in California for AAP week with
@AAPhysiatrists
was a blur but I definitely had a time! Amazing sessions, and even better people ๐ Good seeing everyone out there, safe travels home! โ๐พ
#Physiatry23
As a resident Iโve started to appreciate the long drive home from the hospital that I really used to dislike. Its ended up being therapeutic and crucial to decompress after some of these floor days ๐ญ
A huge welcome to our newest residents joining the Baylor College of Medicine PM&R Family! We are excited to have yโall and canโt wait for you to join our team! Congratulations!๐

Itโs an honor and Iโm grateful to be able to present at my first AAP Weekend! Looking forward to seeing those Iโve met along the journey and meeting even more at
#Physiatry23
. See you in Anaheim! ๐
Watching
#Physiatry22
from afar because you have 2 shelf exams at the same time is a different kind of pain ๐ฅฒ
Iโm living vicariously through everyone in NOLA right now!!
@AAPhysiatrists
Happy that Iโm almost at the end of the 3rd year tunnel and starting
#physiatry
rotations (1 week and a half left) but sad that whatโs blocking the light at the end of it are 3 shelf exams ๐ฅฒ
Another huge highlight of my weekend at
#AAPMR2022
: meeting
@TalyaFlemingMD
after her great talk on Post-Acute Sequelae of COVID with
@MVGutierrezMD
, and meeting+getting a picture with the
#physiatry
queen and legend behind the book, Dr. Sara Cuccurullo at the same time!
To those who attended
#AMEC2023
โ Thank you!
All of you made this a successful conference & truly embodied brilliance. As we depart and travel back to cities across the country we hope you left inspired & ready to continue the mission of the SNMA.

These collective experiences taught me so much that I plan to carry through the remainder of my career as a physician, even in another specialty. I would love to thank everyone thatโs been a part of the journey (many of which who may not even be aware of the role they had)
Tonight was a great representation of all that SNMA promotes: diversity, support, and increasing the number of clinically excellent, culturally competent, & socially conscious physicians. Thanks to everyone who promoted & came to our Post-Match panel & to our FANTASTIC panelists!
๐Ready to live it up in NOLA?๐

Grateful for the past 4 weeks spent at
@UTHSA_RehabMed
. From observing and working with therapists hands-on to getting to do Botox injections, I had a wonderful time. Now to enjoy family and gain a lot of weight in a short amount of time ๐๐ฆ
Phew, my family is a blessing. Mentally, financially, emotionallyโฆ I have no idea where Iโd be or how Iโd be faring on this medical journey without them ๐ฅน๐ฅฒ

Breaking Barriers: Our residents, Dr. Nweke and Dr. Achilike attended AMEC 2023 organized by the SNMA to discuss diversity, equity, and inclusion. They also participated in a talk about overcoming the odds to achieve greatness titled โMinor setback for a Major comeback.โ
Just realized this today...but our leadership team is all women. Not for lack of trying, but for some reason only women ended up following up and being actively involved. We're missing
@mia_kumquat
on our list - her feature is still in the works!
