The Sparty statue earlier tonight - dozens of students leaving flowers for the victims. It doesn’t take the pain away but seeing others out here helps us remember that we’re not alone in experiencing this.
“ALLOW US TO DEFEND OURSELVES & CARRY ON CAMPUS”
The Rock at Michigan State was repainted overnight with this message after Monday’s mass shooting. Before, it read “HOW MANY MORE?”
I still can’t believe how one person was able to steal so much joy and security from so many young, bright souls across campus, the state, the country and the world. He’s gone, but we still have to live with this.
I’m here at today’s protest where MSU students are demanding action from legislators and school administrators. March for Our Lives organizer David Hogg will be speaking. Follow for updates.
(I will not be talking with students unprompted, only covering what the speakers say.)

If you drove through East Lansing today, you may have seen this man in MSU graduation regalia asking for money - he graduated just last week and is now homeless. Read about his story here, new from me.

There’s been litigation playing out over a raise to $12 per hour - under the plan originally approved by voters, that raise would’ve happened in 2022. Some more info here, also with implications on direct democracy initiatives in the state.
@Fightkidscancer
I’m a student too. I had to cower in my house with the lights off, blinds closed and doors locked. I’m giving other students, who are scared and grieving just like me, the opportunity to share their experiences if they so choose.

Gov. Whitmer orders the lowering of flags at the Capitol and at public buildings to honor and remember the victims of the MSU shooting.
"The whole state of Michigan is wrapping its arms around the Spartan community today," she said.
One of the worst feelings is going to bed knowing there will be even more terrible news when you wake up - so much senseless destruction and violence in this world. Thinking about Ukraine and hoping for peace.
My thoughts are too scattered to share much right now, but to everyone in and around the MSU community, just know that you’re not alone in your feelings of grief, sadness and anger.
One of the toughest stories I’ve had to write throughout this tragedy. I talked with several students who think that MSU needs to be doing more for students - extending the pause on classes, offering Zoom options or extra security. With
