I came across a child who had 40 placements and 28 social workers - simply not good enough parenting! If a child is removed from harm then they must not be subjected to further harm by the agency charged with their care!

The student who is causing problems might be in a 15 year old body but for some vulnerable young folk their social emotional/development might be more like that of a primary student - check can actually do what is being asked- think stage not age, what skills do you need to teach

When we ‘see’ a behaviour always worth thinking what might be behind it - I started a wee rant about state of nation (dire) and hubby just hugged me and said are you ok? Anger is so often a symptom of other emotions - kindness and compassion are often appropriate responses

I think schools will be never be inclusive if we have the view that every undesirable behaviour will be eliminated with a sanction! Some will but for children with attachment needs/trauma/ACEs that will cause more stress - be curious! What’s driving the behaviour

I’ve heard lately about children being given points or merits for good behaviour but then having them taken away!!! Don’t get this - the fact that something else happens doesn’t re-write the other stuff - catch the positive and reward - don’t remove later! Thoughts?

Let’s be honest in probably every LA there are children in care who have had 10, 20, 30, even 40 plus placements - that causes massive trauma - should those LAs not be taken to task over those children that they have damaged and traumatised!

Find half an hour to listen to this! If children have developmental trauma they will struggle with attention and impulsivity - if this is seen as misbehaviour and ‘punished’ it causes further problems. We must build capacity in educators!

If a child is not engaging, withdrawn, angry towards others refusing tasks or fidgety, defiant we could start by checking how they are (they are telling us they aren’t ok) giving them time allowing them to be heard helping them regulate - that’s what I’d like others to do for me!
