NAACL arxiv deadline is Nov 15, EMNLP video deadline is Nov 12. NAACL submission deadline is Dec 15, and the EMNLP conference is Dec 6-10. Both within ACL, surely those could be streamlined better and spaced out a little more?

@NeilPHauer I want to add another recent but very important point. Armenia has a non-violent government, and since recently also a democratic government. Even the most progressive of us do not agree to subjecting Armenians to the horrors of dictatorship that AZ subjects its own citizens to.

This is true. While I had little trust in Arm govt during the 2016 war, I am absolutely confident that the government is being as transparent as is allowable during wartime today. I am honestly surprised that Azeris have so little scepticism for their authoritarian govt.

Let's go further and actively discourage including experiments with paid APIs, those APIs change constantly, in ways that are not disclosed, and without prior notice, how is it scientific to include them? Those results are not reproducible by the time the paper sees light 🤷

@adamconover @DoorDash @Grubhub @lucaspeterson The funny thing is that even after all that, Grubhub, Doordash and Uber Eats are still losing money, they lose hundreds of millions of dollars in a quarter. So their model does not work for the restaurants, but neither does it for themselves.

Congrats to me on my first rejected paper, may there be many more! The reviewers seemed infuriated by me reporting accuracy for a perfectly balanced dataset instead of precision-recall, lol, because "[P-R] are well-known and well-understood."

@NeilPHauer I think this is just a perfect demonstration, of how neither side understands the other. "It's easy to be nationalist from afar" - my first reaction was "are you freaking sure?" Are you sure it isn't easier to just assimilate and abandon your heritage?

Not this particular case, but in my batch a reviewer who rated a paper 5 (borderline accept), privately insisted on rejection because the paper did not have a "clear advocate", the paper had another 5 and a 6 (and a 3). So, neither trust the scores nor the score-givers, I guess

Maybe it's because I haven't had to review a paper fully written by chatgpt or I haven't received a chatgpt review myself, but since a lot of us are working on improving LLMs in one way or another - isn't it somewhat hypocritical to frown upon their use inside the community?
