Housed people get in arguments, do drugs, have domestic disputes, are generally messy, but when unhoused people are forced to live & do those things in public spaces it’s treated as criminal & unacceptable.
If you say the phrase “but they refused housing” it should be law that you have to explain in excruciating detail the exact circumstances of the “housing” that was offered
I’m sorry, so you’re telling me
there was a training drill
happening at a library during business hours
somehow involving live ammunition
and the cops accidentally killed one of their own?
UPDATE: FATAL OFFICER ACCIDENTAL SHOOTING: Initial reports suggest a training was being conducted inside the library and the officer was shot. It is believed to be accidental, MPD will be investigating. That officer has been pronounced dead at a local hospital.
IMPORTANT REMINDERS:
- mask up, cover your tattoos, don’t wear easily identifiable clothes & destroy your bloc if you’re near anything spicy
- go with a group
- phone on airplane mode or leave it at home
- always leave in small groups & watch your surroundings
Dip out, don’t get arrested, pop back up & fight again.
This is a marathon, not a sprint, & we need everyone in the fight. Mass arrests aren’t a tactic to clog up the injustice system anymore, don’t get captured.
For example, when
@brookepintodc
says “they refused housing,” the housing = a shared motel room w/ a stranger, 7pm curfew, can only bring 2 bags, no guests, can only come & go 2-3 times a day, roach infested grab & go breakfast. Break a rule you’re out.
When a man was trapped in his tent & being loaded into a trash compactor at a camp eviction, the police scrambled to block us from helping & made no attempts to render aid or help the man.
Some important things:
- if a fascist shows up at a thing, asking them politely to leave will not work
- deescalators aren’t trained to deal with fascists
- ignoring them will not work
Please listen to AFA folks when we’re trying to give you safety guidance on dealing with fash
@JoshuaPotash
The main issue with turning corporate spaces in living spaces is lack of bathrooms & showers. I see a lot of calls to turn empty office buildings into apartments, but it would actually be easier to just build apartments for people.
This is a list of the 90 people who died without housing in
#WashingtonDC
.
The same DC where
@POTUS
lives. The same DC where Congress meets. The same DC with a $19+ billion budget.
Walmart on Georgia Ave also has tshirts, underwear, & socks locked up. Poverty leads to need leads to “crime” leads to policing which leads to poverty which leads to “crime” etc etc
STOP. JUST. LEAVING. FOOD. AT. UNHOUSED. CAMPS.
Especially right in front of people’s camps. All you are doing is attracting rats that destroy their tents & bite them while they try to eat. Then they are stuck cleaning up the mess.
Stop describing police raids & violence as anarchy. That’s fascism.
Anarchy is the free food, medic tents, shared community guidelines, the community meetings, insisting on breaking the division between student & non-student.
Trying to use nicer or milder or whatever tactics because you don’t agree with aggressive and/or physical confrontation isn’t really a decision you get to make when you’ve got Nazis showing up at shit
Met a woman today that was turned away from 4 shelters because she’s on oxygen “& sometimes people smoke in the bathrooms so the whole place could blow up.”
So add that to the long list of reasons people sleep outside & not in shelters.

Apparently folks in the nonprofit world have been uncomfortable with how we send no questions asked cash to unhoused neighbors, to which I say:
Don’t tell me to tell people what to do. That’s two layers of telling people what to do. Don’t. Mind your business.
If you are coming to DC to cover the upcoming arrival of the trucker convoy:
LEAVE UNHOUSED PEOPLE OUT OF YOUR PICTURES
Really, there is no need to take pictures of unhoused people & their things without their permission ever. Period.
Seasons are changing, so you know what that means: everyone is cleaning out their closets & wants to donate their things.
Here’s some suggested dos & donts for donating stuff to your local mutual aid group, learned through my experience sorting through a whole buncha stuff.

There’s a new women’s march action floating around so quick reminder:
DO NOT SIGN UP FOR A DIRECT ACTION. DO NOT GIVE YOUR LEGAL NAME, BIRTHDAY, ADDRESS, ETC TO A GROUP PLANNING A DIRECT ACTION. THESE LISTS CAN & WILL BE ACQUIRED BY COPS TO PROSECUTE YOU.
Stop. Just. Leaving. Boxes. Of. Food. (Especially). And. Other. Supplies. At. Unhoused. Camps. Stop.
This is something we hear frequently, & have seen ourselves at unhoused camps, that really needs to stop. If you cannot give it directly to someone, take it back with you. 🧵1/7
Hey folks,
Do not let a group convince you to do a risky action without having training. It’s seems to me the cult is having folks dangle from bridges & cranes without training.
People train for months for these sort of actions. Don’t do it.
Crisis pregnancy centers do not offer abortions but will make you think they do & then preach at you to not get one. They often open shop near actual abortion providers to trick people.
When I arrived I parked a bit down the street and took my pictures and left. "End forced motherhood" "Not real clinic" to inform those who look to get services claimed to be offered to look else where and not at the grift of the clinics who take advantage of people with uteruses.
For DC, J6 wasn’t a one day event. For the 14 days that followed, we were a militarily occupied city organizing to keep each other safe, assuming that J20 would be worse.
I thought people were gonna die & the work we did those two weeks was to prevent that as much as possible.
I know this is wild for some folks to hear, but harassing unhoused people & throwing away their belongings doesn’t magically get them into an apartment.
A city can't punish homeless people for sleeping on public property or using blankets and pillows to protect themselves from the elements, a federal appeals court ruled Wednesday.
As National Guard filed into DC last week, Mayor Bowser said we’d return to a “new normal” after inauguration. Now National Guard will be staying in the District through at least March. Just an FYI for folks that stopped paying attention to DC after the 20th.
VIOLENT ZIONIST! This guy snuck into the Gaza Solidarity Encampment at UCLA and started putting his hands on multiple people, trying to provoke protestors. This is who they are. Violent pigs. Expose this guy:
Again, when antifascists talk about Nazis we mean literal fucking Nazis, not your MAGA uncle (although we’re keeping an eye on him too).
It’s not a euphemism, we have an actual literal Nazi problem & everyone needs to show out to crush it.
Wish these Nazi scumbags would take their masks off so we could see how many are former & current
@RonDeSantis
@GovRonDeSantis
staff. We know at least one of them made the Ron DeeSantis Nazi campaign video.
@JoshuaPotash
Yesss it would be wonderful to use that much space for free community services. Just free spaces to hang out would be wonderful, but stores could be used by different mutual aid groups offering free services 😍
We went to McPherson Square with
@dc_fnb
the Saturday after J6 & unhoused folks down there hadn’t eaten in DAYS. Organizers were busting their asses to get folks to safety, around the national guard & police.
Fuck everyone that fed the cops & the national guard.
VERY COOL: Disclosure made to DC Council shows people donated 60 care packages, 5000 hot meals and 3800+ STARBUCKS gift cards to DC police officers in the days after the Jan. 6 US Capitol Insurrection
1. We don’t want your trash
If it is something completely broken, unusable, or widely impractical that someone else wouldn’t want or couldn’t use, don’t donate it. Find a way to repurpose or look for local folks that take stuff to repurpose.
2/7
The Convoy is “going dark” (shutting off streams) now in Hagerstown & are lining up presumably to come down to DC. We don’t know if this is for real, a test run, or a bluff, but I’d recommend DC folks keep eyes & ears out.
If you see something, feel free to DM me.
While folks are celebrating the first full day of the Biden presidency, unhoused residents’ that were sheltered for safety during inauguration are being put back out on the street
4. Give us clean stuff!
Laundry takes money, time, & energy! Give me clean things I can turn around & hand out. Especially in these current plague times.
5/7
2. If groups have a list of donation needs, don’t toss in extra stuff when your drop off.
It takes a surprising amount of time & effort to sort & store donations. Tossing in extra stuff we don’t need or want piles on more time for us to figure out how to redistribute.
3/7
I would rather sit in a two hour long meeting about whether we’re gonna use radios at the action or not than show up in organizing spaces & just have someone act like my boss & give me orders.
Time to prepare myself for the wave of J6 hot takes that completely ignore that people live in DC & were working tirelessly to keep each other safe that week(s) & are still dealing with trauma from that.
Pack of some bags with hand warmers & body wipes. Put $10 bills in them. Hand them out to your unhoused neighbors on the street. Don’t have the cash to do it solo? Talk to your neighbors & friends & pool your resources.
An unhoused friend asked me to share this reminder with y’all:
STOP JUST LEAVING FOOD AT CAMPS & TENTS
If someone is not home, do not just leave food. Not only is it unhealthy, it’s nasty & attracts pests. You are just giving residents a cleaning chore. Stop it.
For the past couple months we’ve been mentoring a local Girl Scout troop who are making sleeping mats from recycled plastic bags to distribute to unhoused neighbors!
Check out these mats they’ve made so far!

A pilot project accelarates access to housing for residents of the two underpass encampments, whic will be cleared Sept. 20. After that, the area will become a 'no-tent' zone: DC Permanently Removing NoMA Underpass Encampments
3. That being said, if in doubt, just ask!
Sometimes we have capacity to take extra stuff on & get it to groups that can use it or have extra storage & can hang onto stuff until a need pops up. BUT ASK.

If you’re in DC & wondering how to prep for the oncoming fascist invasion:
TALK TO YOUR NEIGHBORS!
We are gonna need everyone to take care of each other & show up in the streets to send these people packing. Remember how mad you were after J6? Channel that!
Speaking of, my org

is currently helping with a couple unhoused camp eviction defenses on top of our usual supply distros — you can donate to help us out
