Do any other neurodivergent people listen to a song on repeat for minutes or hours and then just abruptly reach a point like "Okay, that's enough" and turn it off, and then sometimes not want to hear it again for at least a month?

A guy next to me on my first flight wasn't wearing a mask so I offered one of my N95s; he was like, "No, don't use." So I Google-translated "I'm getting surgery, COVID is dangerous for me." He went, "Oh" and put on his own mask. People forget they put others at risk.

The danger of being ADHD and getting distracted is that you don't notice it happening. One second you're working on a thing and the next second you jolt back into reality and realize you've been doing something entirely unrelated for either 1 minute or 2 hours.

@RahulKohli13 If there’s one thing I’ve learned about being autistic, it’s that the β€œmild” and β€œsevere” categories just define how we affect others, not our own experiences of our brains. I think what matters is YOUR needs, your experience of how your brain affects your life and self.

Can you imagine if #neurotypicals had to get diagnosed to prove they were NT? Like, you can’t just say that there’s nothing wrong with you, you need to spend thousands of dollars & hundreds of hours getting an official diagnosis of β€œnormal.”

@FlorenceOfLabia Ah, yes, that makes total sense, because I know, as a teacher, nothing ensures my students are focused on the lesson like making them sit for 30-60 minutes with an excruciatingly full bladder. Totally keeps their minds on the lesson. /sarcasm

Having executive dysfunction is like every decision in your life being a Choose Your Own Adventure option except instead of choosing you get stuck weighing all possible outcomes of each, and end up taking a nap instead of finishing the book.

They’re SO CLOSE. It’s almost as if a deadly virus swept across the globe 3 years ago and still hasn’t gone away. It’s almost as if β€œPeople who got sick from COVID can’t seem to stay healthy” is linked to disabled people saying β€œCOVID will make you sicker every time” for 3 years.

@WCTravelOrg @1Schoolhouse @AmericanAir @AmericanAir When a wheelchair wasn’t available for me last month with another airline, the company rep said β€œMost people bring their own.” And this is what happens! Your company damaged personal property and did a bad job with repairs. Fix this and do better!

@Natt I'm in love with everything about this: the rough rendering of the pig head staked through the top; the clean, cursive text contrasted with the violence of the words; the candies used as rocks and plants; the spatters of "blood." This kid 100% understood the assignment.

@moniza_hossain @bibicosplays As someone with absolutely no interest in romance as a genre, I binged season 2 over a weekendβ€”literally didn’t leave the house or sleep until it was done. The chemistry the actors portrayed was RIVETING. Kate was a powerhouse. πŸ’•

NTs be like β€œWhy didn’t you explore the options that I didn’t explicitly mention as being possible options???” Maybe bc NT subliminal messaging is so convoluted that I don’t know what’s β€œa reasonable request” and what’s β€œrude and demanding” so if I’m unsure I just don’t ask.

Does anyone else #ActuallyAutistic get used to masking even when they're alone? Like you're so used to not being allowed to have emotions where people can see them that you can't even do it in a safe space?

SOMEONE ND: Hey everyone, please be aware that calling directness "rude" can be ableist. SOMEONE NT: But some things are just RUDE, like if you can't take the time to say something politely, I don't care who you are, that's rude!

I think the best way for NT people to imagine the stress that their non-answers cause #autistic people is to imagine calling a national emergency hotline (911, for example) needing them to explain CPR to revive your friend & they say, "Just go with your heart, I believe in you!"

Why do they always bring up β€œif Hamas would release the hostages there would be a ceasefire” as if Israel didn’t turn down multiple offers of having all hostages returned on the condition of a ceasefire?
Here is Cory Booker intentionally conflating saving Palestinian lives as β€œDefending Hamas” while also implying that Qatar and Egypt were lying when the Palestinian delegation agreed to release hostages (mind you, for the umpteenth time bc they offered in October too). 1 | 2

@autienelle What's hilariously ironic is that if I share something that's just fun and interesting information, they take personal offense, but if I share a need (directly, specifically, without pretense) they act like it was just a fun story I was sharing to amuse them.

I ask bc nothing has hurt or frightened me more than getting help from a NT person and finding out later they are FURIOUS that I didn’t β€œadequately thank them” (pay them in social status recognition), or that I β€œdemanded too much” (acted like I had too much social value).

@3rochan I mean, I'm so painfully empathetic that I can't watch some media because I can imagine so strongly what the person or animal is feeling that it makes my chest hurt. I know that's not uncommon for #autistic people (though some say they don't experience empathy).

Trans mascs, how do you navigate the men's locker room at pools. Someday (after top surgery) I want to get back into swimming. But I lack a very obvious (lower) body part and I'm nervous af about venturing into men's locker rooms. Am I overthinking this?
