Seal Bay is an absolute stunner on Barra’s west coast. The man in the pic was one of only two other people on the beach. He was playing the violin (rather well) and the tune serenaded across the bay. One of today’s many highlights.

It’s easy to see why Hosta beach (Tràigh Stir) on North Uist is so popular. It’s got the lot - white sand, undulating dunes, wild flowers, rock pools. And very popular for surfing, although not when I was there!

My top 10 beaches of 2022. 8. Seal Bay, Isle of Barra Barra’s beaches are legendary and I was lucky to catch them all on a beautiful day in August. This one at Allasdale stands out for me, not least because of the lone violinist serenading the sea from the rocks. Memorable.
