Mind is blown: just built a semantic search app in a few hours with OpenAI embeddings and Pinecone DB in a few hours for under $1. And it works SO WELL. Even just a few years ago this would be been orders of magnitude more expensive and a lot more tedious

@tommysearle They’re one of the most interesting things in NLP imo - for example I read that you can even do rough arithmetic with it in some special cases, like the vector for “king” - “man” + “woman” brings you very close to the vector for “queen”. All learned from the structure of text!

One big motivation hack I learned this year when building a startup: Create a Slack feed when good customer outcomes happen. Analytics can help you grow and make decisions but seeing and emoji reacting to Slack message whenever money comes in the door just hits different.

so funny to me that your headcount is how you're often sized up as an engineering leader it's actually a liability: if two companies ship just as much but one has a lot more engineers, that's a worse company and a red flag *value shipped as a team* is the only thing that counts
