Microorgansims were the first life forms on Earth. Microbes alive now are the result of billions of years of evolution. I strongly believe that in their vast diversity, there is untapped wisdom. If we tune up, microorganisms can save the planet!

Genome Sequencing Project will sequence and characterize representative genomes from every major clade of embryophytes, green algae, and protists (excluding fungi) within the next 5 years.
We must amplify the voices guiding us toward a healthier work environment.
I went through this as well, and I can say it has become so important for my health to make time for:
Exercise, hang out with my family, and rest without guilt

Hello! I am queer and work as an assistant professor at Stockholm University. I am studying microbial interactions in aquatic ecosystems and the carbon cycle. I am committed to make science a more inclusive place for everybody!
I am also afraid of being asked my pronouns. All pronouns work for me and I worry it sparks more questions than answers. I think a big lesson in diversity is to accept we all are different and there is not "one size fits all". Openess, kindness and emphaty shall build bridges ❤
We need more awareness and self-reflection, and then, translation of the obtained knowledge into collective engagement and growth into a more inclusive academic culture and environment

In summary, not only did I get to learn about the amazing photosynthetic machinery that Chlorobia has in the chlorosomes, but the project also kept me afloat when I was feeling lost. Most importantly, it reinforced that there is power and strength in open and honest teamwork💪🏾❤️
- Know yourself so you can have optimal performance while caring for your wellbeing.
- Work hard and get enough sleep, good food, exercise, and positive social interactions.
- If the academic environment is pushing you towards burnout, let's start an open conversation to change
Doing "your best" doesn't have to mean working yourself to the bone or pushing until your breaking point. Rather it means the best you can do while still taking care of yourself. Your best is better when you're healthy & at peace 🥰

Our STEM institutions are like just one type of growth media, (maybe LB media😜) and we are expecting the whole diversity out there to grow and thrive in it.
Talking about emotions: there are people like coconuts. Very hard on the outside but if you manage to reach the centre, they are sweet and loving. And there are people like peaches, soft on the outside but with a hard and sad core.
I want to be a tomato. How about you?
