Big day! I received promotion to Professor! As I emphasized in my meeting with my Dean, this has been a team effort as I'm surrounded by amazing researchers, students, and colleagues. Thank you to all!
At
#NCTMDC23
and I saw this amazing new tool from
@hand2mind
. It shows how the equal sign is directly related to the greater than and less than symbols! Wow!
Just met with a financial planner with my male partner. They did all his financial stuff first. Then asked me, "Now Sarah, do you work outside the home?" How should I have responded? I laughed then said, "That is insanely insulting for women, and I make a higher salary."

Thrilled to be named an Associate Director with the Meadows Center for Preventing Educational Risk
@utexascoe
. I look forward to working with all of the amazing people within
@MCPER_EDU
and sharing research in TX and beyond!
Super proud of Lynn Fuchs and Doug Fuchs who won the "Nobel prize of education" - the McGraw prize. Almost everything I do in my job has been influenced by Lynn! She's an amazing mentor and friend. (Doug is great too!)

modules (lesson guides, student problems, vocabulary cards) for everything from addition through algebraic equations. They are free! Check them out here:
My co-presenter couldn't travel to

Very honored to receive the
#PECASE
award! It's my name on the award, but I'm surrounded by amazing mentors, collaborators, colleagues, teachers, students, and research teams. Research is a team effort!

Planning for my (first) Ph.D. level course about
#math
intervention. We'll be increasing our own math content knowledge in addition to reading lots about interventions! What else should be talk about in class?
#ElevateTXed
@utexascoe
Out now! In most
#math
interventions, authors do not specify whether students experience math difficulty alone or with reading difficulty. Knowing student strengths could help individualize intervention.

Meet our incoming editorial team of the Journal of Educational Psychology! It is an honor, a privilege, and an enormous responsibility for us to serve the field in this important role. We will begin reviewing papers January 1, 2020!
Interesting read! I’d love for some research teams to collect data in this area to provide real insight (via data) about some of the reasons that students experience math anxiety. Who wants to work on that grant proposal?
Drum roll…congratulate Dr. Sarah King who passed her dissertation defense yesterday! She designed a module for pre-service teachers focused on culturally responsive practices for math. I adopted Sarah (as a student) 2 years ago, and I am so grateful she came to the PRIME Team!
Last day in my office where I've spent much of my time the last 9 years! Where to next? Upstairs to the 5th floor where I hope to spend at least the next 9 years!
Yesterday (12-1-21) was awesome, but today is 12-02-2021. That's an 8-digit palindrome! The month is full of these: 9 consecutive palindrome days and 2 six-digit palindromes (12-11-21 and 12-22-21).

Finished teaching our

math methods course today - and our students shared their math vocabulary or glossaries. They made these across the semester. I'm excited they are emphasizing the language of math in their teaching!
I teach math to my nephews. Tonight, talking to my Mom (their grandma):
Mom:I'm helping them with their math.
Me:That's great!
Mom:I was showing borrowing.
Me:Let's not call it that.
Mom:What should I call it?
Me:Well...(sending her an article I wrote)

Tomorrow (Thursday at 9am ET) Lynn Fuchs and I will be sharing important components of
#math
word-problem instruction. Lynn will be sharing reading comprehension strategies. I'll be sharing equation solving strategies.

Keywords are the worst! We have a new paper coming out - average % keywords work in single-step word problems ranges from 20-80%. In multi-step word problems, keywords work LESS THAN 10% OF THE TIME.
Congrats to Dr. Shen! Zhina passed her dissertation defense today with a very cool project about CRA and word-problem solving. Way to go, Zhina! The

is so proud of you!

I'm very excited to share this

that I worked on with
@TheNCII
and
@UConnNeag
. I describe how to use instruction and assessment to improve math outcomes for students with learning difficulties. It's TOTALLY FREE!
So excited to share this
@IESResearch
about
#math
