Important data from UKOSS: NO woman who has received both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine has been admitted to hospital since the vaccination program began.
#vaccineswork
Thinking of my colleagues and friends in The Rotunda tonight, many who have been unable to leave the hospital after 10/11/12hour shifts
Also thinking of the women who will need to travel to the hospital tonight and may struggle to do so safely
CRP is not innovative and new, it doesn’t distinguish between viral and bacterial infections and it doesn’t determine if an infection is present.
@McCabesPharmacy
how are you making these claims? And what pharmacists are on board with this?!
‘Senior doctors’ and ‘senior decision makers’ to be in hospital 7 days a week 🤯 This is ALWAYS the case. Either those working in the HSE don’t understand how the HSE actually works or they are deliberately trying to shift blame to staff
A look at what NCHDs are facing - currently being asked to work a 7 day week. Working seven days really means working twelve days in a row. And this is on top of any call/long shifts they may have
The only good thing to come out of this pandemic,is the kindness and generosity of Irish people that I love so take away from all the doom and gloom somewhat I want to create a thread of all the good things happening on our little ireland

At first I thought the clap thing was a bit cringe, but I just stood outside
@_TheNMH
with some of my colleagues and heard people clapping and it was 😭
Thank you
Nice to get some good news amidst the uncertainty and stress of current times.

Really enjoyable occasion!
Was absolutely honoured to have been asked to give the new members address.
Huge congratulations to all new members

And side note - I have never attended one of these events. Because either they happen during WORK hours or happen outside of your 10+ hour day when all you want is to go home/do your own activities

Gynae Oncology department launched their ‘Patient Passport’. These are incredible! Well done to all involved, especially

New advice from DoH seems bizarre to me.
Something like this makes more sense. Consider people in four groups.
1. Asymptomatic, negative antigen. Continue to follow general advice.
2. Asymptomatic, positive antigen. Consider COVID +, isolate. No need for PCR.

Women themselves have very kindly shared with me* why they made an individual choice to go privately for their pregnancy. They capture the wide variety of individual reasons and nuance behind that decision making. A 🧵

‘Vaccine centre said I couldn’t get booster until after 13/40’
‘GP said I couldn’t get vaccine after 36 weeks’
COVID19 vaccination (primary and booster), is safe AND recommended at ANY time in pregnancy.
As people may now see, the newly proposed contract for Irish Consultants will not allow doctors to see/treat/manage private patients in a public hospital.
I see many arguments that the two tiered system should be abolished anyway, and this is movement towards that 1/x
The Taoiseach has confirmed that a woman in her 20's with dual Irish-Israeli citizenship, is among those still unaccounted for, as the fighting continues between Israel and Gaza. An Irish man living in the country, says the situation is tense
@PaulQuinnNews
has the story
Received the loveliest message from an elective student today.
I still remember all of the doctors (a lot were O&G) who went out of their way to teach me when I was a student.
Talking to one of our midwives in work.
Her train to work is now cancelled. No options to park near the hospital.
Can free parking for health care workers be re-instated?
#HelpOurHeroes
I have had the pleasure of work with the consultants and midwives in NMH. They are passionate about women’s health care and reproductive rights. I have never met a specialty who are such ADVOCATES for the group they provide care for. If they are telling you women will have 1/2
Just got a message from a woman. Her *obstetric consultant* advised not to get the COVID booster until after 12/40.
So disappointing to hear. And so conflicting for women to hear contradictory advice.
It is not ok to insist doctors agree to take a contract that does not exist.
In solidarity with my future colleagues I have to comment on this.
@DonnellyStephen
Hi All! Am doing a study to assess Irish NCHDs comfortability with discussing obesity & nutrition with patients.
Its a questionnaire based study and takes on average 90s to complete. I would really appreciate if people could complete it.
Please DM me for link!
RTs very welcome.
Yesterday, the
@RCObsGyn
released Version 1 of their guideline for Coronavirus (COVID-19) infection in pregnancy.
Obviously data is limited & the situation is evolving, w/ further updates to follow. But below is a summary of current guidelines, with further info on their website
Happy changeover eve to all who celebrate!
Feels so strange to not be starting into a new job tomorrow, but rather having some time off before moving to Perth for the next year
An update on our

Today, in my post call delirium, I asked one of our consultants had he been watching

after he used the phrase ‘it is what it is’ in handover.
Unsurprisingly, he has not been.
Shout out to my SpR today who managed to convince me that Saint Veronica is the patron saint of vaginas. Was about to start praying to her after all my perineal repairs.
When you run out of theatre in between cases to grab a creme egg and two scrub nurses follow you because ‘when they see obstetrics running they fear the worst’ 😂
Already proving to be a study aid! Alarm set for 06.00 to study before work. Considered going back to sleep, but was so excited to go down and see her that I got up 😅
#studybuddy
Difficult case today. I rang to ask how the patient was doing, and the shift leader came on the phone to make sure I was OK, that I had slept, that I will debrief and to know that I can talk to any of them. Blown away by her kindness and compassion.
Am I getting better at changeover or are the staff at my new hospital exceptionally nice?
Can’t get over how nice, patient and helpful everyone has been. I know changeover is frustrating for permanent staff but that sort of attitude makes it SO much easier.
Centralize payroll PLEASE. It’s financially tough and frustrating constantly being emergency taxed. And surely it would be more convenient for each hospitals HR dept/salaries dept
@HSELive
Important to read as we move forward with
#cervicalscreening
Take home points; 1). Screening tests are NOT diagnostic 2. Screening tests will unfortunately always have false neg (and pos) 3. HPV vaccine will prevent SEVEN OUT OF TEN cervical ca
#wearedelivering
info
1. Cervical cancer screening is a complex area and as we move forward in Ireland we need to know the facts so that clinicians and women can make decisions about screening together in an informed way.

@DonnellyStephen
Super. And who exactly is going to perform these? 🙂 And is there extra OT staff to look after these patients? 🙂 and extra ward staff to look after them post op? 🙂
I really don’t subscribe to the ‘that’s not my job’ notion within hospitals.
At the end of the day we’re all there to achieve the same thing. If it is safe to do so and provides/betters patient care, then you should make it your job.
I am so saddened to hear of Laura Brennan’s is a funny thing, to feel so affected by the death of a person you have never met,but I suspect I’m not the only 1. Laura did more for cervical ca awareness than many of us will ever do as drs & we are grateful.
We are all deeply saddened to learn of Laura Brennan’s death, and we send our deepest condolences to her family and friends.
#ThankYouLaura
for all you have done.
Seeing some of the horrible byproduct of social distancing; women who will be inpatients for weeks not seeing their partners/kids, dads seeing their newborns for a few minutes and not for days and colleagues moving out of home to avoid making their family sick.
Forcing people to do things rarely ends up with the desired outcome.
Irish graduates should WANT to stay. In fact, I’d argue many of my colleagues DID want to stay and felt like they couldn’t.
Our goal should be fixing the system so that medical graduates WANT to work in it. So they will COMPETE for spots
We want them planning 30 years leading & innovating not 5-10 years mandatory service & exodus at just the point they are specialists
NCHDs do a huge amt of service
