tell me state troopers zip tied and arrested a student who was barely conscious, after fainting from a POTS episode. Street medics tried to help her—they arrested the street medics. When her father came to help her, they zip tied him too.
In the chaos I wanna highlight the story of Ms. Perkins I keep reading abt on Twitter, killed in the SFHS shooting, who pulled a fire alarm to warn SFHS of danger.She should be trending— NOT the shooter. His name should be left in the dirt.Out of the headlines & out of our mouths
@breebxtler
Fun fact NJ has really tough gun laws and low gun death rates and pretty much all the illegal guns come in from the gun heavy / lax state of VA. Meaning if these laws were federal we wouldn’t have an isssue lol

A lawyer at the scene of the admin building CUNY students occupied has requested to be in the building if they make any arrests. Police declined to let legal observers in.

throwback to our op ed in the NYT! (sorry to be obnoxious by posting it a second time I just wanted to make it my pinned tweet thanks for your patience & understanding)
Hi yes if you could report
@RealLambright
for his racist, homophobic and quite frankly dangerous remarks and accusing the Santa Fe kids of being crisis actors, you would be doing the world a great service thank you.
Member of the press here. There is NO shame in not talking to journos.
Any good journalist knows the key to strong stories is relationship building; if you can’t build those relationships & sources’ trust, it’s not because of histrionic protestors. Ur just a bad journalist.
@peterbakernyt
Hi Peter, I’m a journalist and I’d like to interview you. I’m here to listen. As I understand it, if you say no you’re an enemy of the free press.
I’m not saying guns lead to gun violence but I am saying states with more guns per capita and less gun regulation have greater rates of school shootings, mass shootings, gun related death and injuries, suicide by firearm oh wait yes I am saying guns lead to gun violence
If you’re a journalist approaching children to discuss what must be the most traumatic thing anyone can ever experience, and the first words out of your mouth aren’t something along the lines of “I’m so sorry for your loss” then what the hell are you doing ????
I’ve received word from folks the

encampment alleging that arresting male police officers removed womens’ hijabs & performed pat downs, which could be a violation protestors’ religious & civil rights.

: Nex Benedict's attackers called him a "furry," which OHS students tell me has become a catch-all pejorative for trans kids at Owasso (esp. those w alt style). Nex was not a furry, but this maybe provides insight wrt bullies' motives.
What people dont get abt the Parkland kids is that they arent advocating for one specific policy. Gun reform, mental health, thats all part of it. But the main message is: “We are just kids. We dont have all the answers. We don’t care what party you are— just stop doing NOTHING.”
I’m not saying gun reform helps stop school shootings but I am saying that of the 22 school shootings this year, the overwhelming majority were in states with lax gun laws so yea im not saying it stops school shootings but THATS EXACTLY WHAT IM SAYING
Also: While many outlets reported LibsOfTiktok targeted Nex Benedict's teacher in Owasso, my investigation found AT LEAST one other time that LOT targeted the district that other reports seem to have missed. (LOT deleted the tweet.)
@TheNation
Parkland kids aren’t millenials. They’re Generation Z. They’re “The Resistance” Generation. They’re something you’ve never seen before and something you won’t soon forget.
A lot of people STILL saying I need to go to school, I’m too young, I should read the Constitution, etc. Proud to say that I have! Multiple times! Just because you weren’t engaged and educated as a teen doesn’t mean I can’t be. Keep marching

about gun violence and the strong correlation between gun deaths and violence against women. Parkland, Captiol Gazette, Trader Joe’s, the list goes on....
The moment when the cops entered the CUNY/CCNY camp. It was 11:48 PM exactly. 12 minutes before midnight, before May Day. Note the couple dozen young protestors — unarmed, undeterred. They were met with hundreds upon hundreds if not thousands of police.
To my fellow students outside Parkland: remember what walkout the movement is really about. This isn’t you getting to play hero for a day. It isn’t just making headlines. It isn’t something to put in a college essay. 17 PEOPLE DIED— remember that. THIS. ISN’T. ABOUT. YOU.
I’d rather see him not be hounded by the media (left or right) to do something he doesn’t want to. He’s an activist, yes, but he is a teenager first. His activism is out of necessity, not as part of some career like a politician (or you!)
months in the making!

on solidarity Shabbos for ceasefire on college campuses since Feb
@jvplive
. they spoke to Jewish students at campuses nationwide for the last few months—including this week at Columbia—about their faith.
@TeenVogue
I showed my dad this article (TLDR: Media hyperfocused on Columbia encampment, which was esp apparent at the nearby CCNY) & he pointed out this CNN clip where not only does coverage of Columbia overshadow that of CCNY, but also they LITERALLY mistake LIVE clips of CCNY for CU...

To all the people saying I’m only 17, I’m still in high school, and I don’t know anything about how the government works....you’re right. I have an AP Gov test this Wednesday and I spent so much time on the march I’m probably gonna fail it. LOL gotta study bye!!! Logging off
@KyleKashuv
If I had a picture of a Venn diagram it would be two completely separate circles because the young man’s decision to walk down a busy highway was NOT part of the walkout
Silly teenagers! The March For Our Lives is just a front for the cardboard and sharpie industry to SPUR PROTESTS so we need MORE SIGNS and they sell MORE PAPER AND MARKERS. Wake up Sheeple!!!!
when there's a school shooter here in the states (which is often!) do we carpet bomb the school and gun down every student running out, because we don't know which one of them might be the danger?
no? ok. now u know how u sound
Ever since the Teen Vogue piece people have asked me to contact MSD kids for them or to “pass on a message.” For the record I will NEVER give out that info because I am a KID and they are KIDS and they arent some PR contact. Theyre my fellow activists. Theyre my fellow students.
Just to be clear, Emma, David, Jackie, Delaney, etc.,? I’m not their AGENT- I’m their FRIEND. Stop trying to get them through me. And it’s not my job to do your journalism for you- I have my own reporting to do. this has been a PSA thank you
Doing the

was was one of the most incredible moments of my life... I’d give it all up if it meant saving one, just one, person from tragedy. But we can’t go back in time and fix all that’s wrong with the world. This is just the next best thing.

@dylanmarron
was really polite and nice but then I finally watched his TED Talk and even then, when I sneezed he said “bless you” in the video as if on cue and I’m both charmed and slightly terrified by the experience
cops at CUNY have showed up to camp in riot gear as Muslim students perform daily prayers, following the attempted entry into an admin building by some protestors
Michael Powell’s Atlantic article on Columbia is BS. He cites Jessica Schwalb & co, suggesting they were kicked out of camp JUST for being Jewish/Zionists, rather than the fact they were belligerent provocateurs who consistently violated the camp rule of no recording w/o consent.
In this room I knew we were alive
Nothing was too painful to survive
We faced the world together
The four of us forever side by side
Everything I promised was for them
I was theirs no matter where or when
How can that be lost forever
How when I gave everything with all my heart?

The similarities between Kaur and Waheed can extend to a million and one other poets. Brief, simple prose, using honey as a metaphor (etc) have existed long before Waheed and will exist long after Kaur. The fodder some people make up just to tear someone else down is laughable
