"The Green Party has lots of mad policies and young people are following them every day because they speak in a way that captures them," says Kemi Badenoch.
"We can do that too"
We are pleased to see that Clive Lewis MP has been forced to retake his affirmation of allegiance following our complaint to the Clerk of the House of Commons.
MPs must not be excused from the common allegiance that binds our nation together.
NEW: Labour MP Clive Lewis has been made to swear in again, having taken the House of Commons oath “under protest” last week
In his initial rendition, Lewis also *forgot* to swear allegiance to King Charles' “heirs and successors” — which I suppose was a no no
Attempts 1 & 2:
I'm begging my fellow Greens to stop supporting building new railways "in principle" and start supporting them practically, like, supporting them in a conceivable reality where they obviously aren't perfect and possibly more than 1 tree will be cut down.
It's getting ridiculous.
We don't stand down, certainly not for Galloway's crank transphobe anti immigrant party.
We literally don't care what you people say. We said last September we were standing everywhere, you had notice, you didn't win, cope.
In every single one of these seats,
@TheGreenParty
split the vote and facilitated a Labour win.
In many cases the Labour candidates were LFI supporters.
The Green Party I knew, and once campaigned for, was proudly pragmatic.
In 2019, they even stood down for Lib Dems! So why
Funnily enough, we have our own Jewish Group, JLM don't regulate all political parties. We aren't gonna take orders from Labour. Go sort out your Tory infested party.
The Green Party have repeatedly failed to take action to stamp out antisemitism in their party & to remove antisemites from their ranks.
We first warned
@TheGreenParty
about this last year. Sadly, we've had to write again. There's nothing progressive about protecting racists.
"Is the Green party the most controversial force in British politics?"
Well we want to tax the rich to fund the NHS and don't want to be mean to migrants, so yes, probably.
This is true. The future of the Left is Green.
The Greens have proven we're the only organised long term threat to Labour, on the left. We're the only campaigning democratic infrastructure capable of organising on the left. We didn't "split the vote", we are coalescing it.
Are all Landlords bad? Yes.
Are there some nice people who become landlords? Yes, but they are still doing something very bad for society.
This is why we need to abolish landlords.
If you're a
@TheGreenParty
member and want to abolish landlords 👇🏼
This is why Greens encouraging tactical voting are shooting themselves in the foot.
Please stop it, for the sake of our party, get a grip and tell people to vote Green.
What is the party tactical voters say they actually most want to be voting for?
Green: 30%
Lib Dem: 20%
Labour: 16%
Reform UK: 8%
Conservative: 6%
SNP/Plaid: 1% each
Other party: 18%
Some strong results for Labour in Bristol including for our new PCC. Despite expectations of a majority, we also stopped the Greens short. Whilst I’m disappointed to lose some great Labour cllrs, I’m heartened by the energy of our candidates and legendary Bristol Labour members🌹
.
@carla_denyer
"we should raise capital gains tax and tax the super rich"
@ShabanaMahmood
"they're making unfunded spending commitments and working people will pay"
Working people literally don't pay capital gains, that's not what capital gains is.
Local councillor Mothin Ali has been trying to calm the situation for several hours. He has tried to stop people throwing objects into the fire.
The far-right have falsely accused him of being part of the riot.
@EuanYours
Who are we supposed to be sorry for here, the Scots for having the XL bullies shipped to them or the XL Bullies for being shipped to Scotland?
And at no point was an ambitious policy on climate change ever presented.
The only party that will stop Just Stop Oil is
@TheGreenParty
. By, you know, stopping the Oil.
E01 passes (narrowly)!!!!!!!
@TheGreenParty
now supports new High Speed rail for the north of England!
Thank you to everyone who has supported our campaign to change party policy.
#GPC24
#TrainsNotPlanes
How is this anyway a gotcha?
@carla_denyer
is literally in the process of getting one, she's campaigning to make sure it's feasible for most people to get them?
Greens don't demand anyone be a perfect paragon, and we don't demand that of our leaders.
To all the Yimbys around.
I've watched this BuildtoRent development go up and open over the last 4 years, I've never objected, or indulged in objections when I ran for the council here, but...
I think it's ableist and ageist to refuse to create safe cycle lanes that disabled and older people could use to safely cycle around the city Julie. But that's just me and my opinion.
@ShelaghFogarty
"I want a ceasefire, but I won't vote for a ceasefire, because it won't immediately bring about a ceasefire and the SNP proposed it"
And this seems, mature to you?
First Green manifesto to not have Stop HS2 in it since I joined in 2015.
Shows all the hard work that
@Greens4HS2
have done making the case for High Speed Rail!
I'll tell you what I am Yimby for, Council flats. Community built, community homes.
Quality built, not quick build tat.
Built to house everyone, not gouge half their salaries.
@natalieben
And yet in the 13 years since opposing it you've never come up with a viable alternative or engaged constructively with the arguments around it.
The Left in this country is in the Green Party.
We're the only party in Westminster calling to tax the rich to fund the NHS. To repeal anti trade union laws and fund a Green New Deal.
Left wing, targeted, disciplined. This is how we win.
The Tories were smashed - and Greens and independents surged.
In dozens of seats, the Greens came a strong second behind Labour.
For the left, there is more grounds for optimism than there has been for years.
Celebrate - and organise.
If you want to tax the super rich, who raked in massive profits over the pandemic, to fund the NHS which the Tories have gutted over 14 years, then
@TheGreenParty
is the one for you.
We're the only party out there that wants to do it.
It's pretty clear being a pro worker and clearly leftwing party is the future for the Green Party.
We need long term priorities for this parliament to press Labour on, I'll be fighting for a Green Party for the workers and renters. ✊🏼
How many Britons support *Green* manifesto policies?
Increasing the minimum wage to £15 an hour: 76% support
1% tax on assets over £10m and 2% tax on assets over £1bn: 71%
Giving local authorities the power to introduce rent controls: 62%
Scrapping tuition fees: 59%
Raising NI
Also, when the Council does by "luxury" flats from the private sector is has to spend money bringing these up to code.
So can we stop pretending that the private sector are doing anything other than profiteering and manufacturing crap?
I'm now getting ads for this block, which is totally unaffordable for anyone working a hospitality job, which in a tourist city is a fair chunk of us. My landlord isn't offering a rent reduction.
When we going to stop thinking giving developers and landlords carte blanche works?
31 corporate lobbyists, being candidates for the "Labour" party.
They're electing fossil fuel lobbyists and water company shills. Not a party for the environment or the workers.
Actually operating heavy machinery in public isn't a right and you should be subject to mandatory retesting in order to keep doing it.
The only way to make people care about the rules is *consequences.*
I think this presents a major challenge going forward for the Green Party. Having a grassroots democratic party, but no way of ensuring those policies are actually represented substantially in Parliament.
Going forward, entirely without a whip, doesn't seem likely.
EXCLUSIVE: “I will not personally be speaking in favour of HS2.” -
@TheGreenParty
peer Baroness
@natalieben
responds to controversial vote at
#GPC24
on
#HS2
which reverses long standing Green Party opposition to HS2, effectively splitting the party on the issue.
A short write up here about my visit to support
@MrTomGray
down in Brighton. Tom and I agree, If you actually look at the two manifestos (Labour and Green), there’s not a great deal of difference. Labour’s Manifesto is properly green – their plans are ambitious: 100% green
*GOOSE IS FOUND*
Goose was just located on the Pier and has been collected safely.
Thanks so much to everyone who looked for him. And to the
@BTNPalacePier
for looking after him.
I think it would be undeniable that Birkenhead is a Green target in 2029. Not only a good 2nd place, but why, a really well established infrastructure that can be invested in and built upon.
It's where those two factors intersect that you'll see 2029 campaigns emerge.
This isn't the only build to rent development going up near me, again, no objections, I don't mind them building, but it isn't reducing my rent, it isn't going to house people like me.
So Yimbys, when is my rent reduction coming through?
And like that, the ceremonial changing of the bios takes place. 💚
Voting Green works folks.
Targeted, disciplined, leftwing, we can make this happen, again and again.
.
@UKLabour
’s again revised New Deal for Working People has more holes in it than Swiss cheese. The number of caveats and get outs means it is in danger of becoming a bad bosses’ charter. 1/3
Again, £901 for a studio is insane and unaffordable unless you live like a hermit. This is in no way affordable.
Stop making us subsidise asset managers and pension funds just so I'm not homeless.
I'm very glad the £15 Minimum Wage has become a key policy in
@thegreenparty
campaign.
It shows the power of a truly democratic political party and the support of the trade unions like
@BFAWUOfficial
@GreenPartyTU
, and the power in voice of workers.
"A £15 minimum wage including removing the ageist caps that means that young adults are not paid enough."
👏
@carla_denyer
on the
@TheGreenParty
plan to end age discrimination in the minimum wage!
💚 Greens will stand up for young people and ensure we're paid fairly.
"the reason why they behave like this ... is they are not used to people to their left being in the same room as them."
Every
@TheGreenParty
should listen to this from
@AaronBastani
. This is why you'll find it incredibly difficult/impossible to work with Labour.
.
@carla_denyer
explains that the Green Party supports building new council houses.
Compare that with what Rachel Reeves from Labour has said previously, that under the next Labour govt no tax payers money will go into building new homes
#BBCLauraK
@MrTomGray
So you're admitting the voting system is nonsensical, whilst standing on a manifesto that says nothing about reforming the voting system.
Wow, it makes so much sense.
Can supposedly intelligent people please stop this bollocks?
You can't "lend" a vote, you either give it or you don't.
Give Labour a majority, and they'll take that as a ringing endorsement. They'll do what the whip says. They aren't going to listen to you.
Sorry but Trade Union leaders can't keep going on like this.
There has to be a red line somewhere, where you leave Labour and fund candidates who actually support the trade union movement.
Like
@TheGreenParty

This new
@UKLabour
document on the New Deal, issued to the unions on Monday, is a row back on a row back. It is totally unrecognisable from the original proposals produced with the unions. Unrecognisable.

Brighton and Hove Labour are unaware because they don't ride bikes around the city regularly. Labour simply doesn't care about cyclist and pedestrian safety, otherwise they would fix junctions and protect people.
"Unaware" drivers hitting cyclists on a contraflow cycle lane is now a "daily occurrence", according to a local who posted the shocking video
Brighton council said that they were not made aware of "some of the incidents" shown in the video
#cycling
Now deleted, not forgotten. Freud truly would have adored this.
Don't stop holding
@bhlabour
to account, we need bike lanes and they won't give them to us without a fight.

Rachel Reeves states that taxing richer people 'isn't my priority' and that those who advocate for this 'will have the chance to express their views at the ballot box'
You're in denial if you think voting for Labour and Tories will do anything but perpetuate a two party system.
At some point you've got to say enough is enough.
I'm proposing a motion to Green Party autumn conference to abolish Green Lords.
Greens should endorse giving people jobs for life. It doesn't help our party, it doesn't help our democracy.
I think we should be talking about why a party that just won two million votes only has two members of the House of Lords
It’s time for
@GreenPartyMolly
&
@Amelia_Womack
to be given peerages
It’s a broken and undemocratic system but until we can scrap it we need to rebalance it
Labour's old adage of "vote for us to get the Tories out" has turned into "Vote for us we are the Tories now!"
Reject the two party duopoly. Vote
@TheGreenParty
Compare and contrast the leadership of the UK & US Green Party.
They are on different planets.
We need to make the English version like the American one. Fast.

@JustStop_Oil
donor
@heather_c_c
At this point I don't really have confidence that the party will support building any rail line. We seem to like them hypothetically but not in reality, because the constitution sites won't be pretty and we won't feel warm and fuzzy while they're being built.
Can we all agree that the "tough decisions" the government should be taking is ignoring all the pearl clutching political commentators and taxing the rich and borrowing to invest in infrastructure.
That's the "difficult choice" not impoverishing everyone.
"You're saying we should borrow even more, Andy!"
@NickFerrariLBC
is surprised as former Bank of England Chief Economist Andy Haldane explains why the government should borrow to invest in schools, roads, and hospitals, arguing that it 'pays off in the long run'.
Greens, Renters, Socialists! It's time to Abolish Landlords.
I need your help to get mine&
@martin_farley
's motion, Abolish Landlords, onto the agenda for Green Party Autumn Conference!
Go to and Co-Propose it right this second!
There is not a military solution to a political problem and as
@carla_denyer
is saying here we need to get the key parties around a negotiation table and establish a peace process.
@TheGreenParty
is the only party calling for peace. 💚 🌻
"Would you increase the number of safe routes?"
Keir Starmer: "I don't think safe routes is the answer to the vile trade that's being run to put people into small boats"
The only way to get things like a £15 minimum wage, wealth taxes, rent controls, radical council house building and a Green New Deal is to vote
@TheGreenParty
. Do it. I double dare you. 💚 🌻
