Watching that 35mm scan of Batman 89 and...I feel like I've been lied too my whole life. VHS, DVD, 4K--they ALL massacred these perfectly beautiful moody shadows.

Seriously, the original theatrical shadow/lighting for this film is way more natural than the heightened brightness/contrast of every home release ever. Makes scenes like this feel like the seedy dark underbelly Gotham's meant to be instead of sound stages.

The print may not be pristine, but the darkness really accentuates the intended lighting on characters in a far more intriguing/organic way than any official release. These scenes with the moving shadows especially pop on an OLED (like straight out of the comics).

@DustinTheFella Censorship definitely held the show back. It’s the reason Mask of the Phantasm is an absolute classic compared to all the early hammy Joker episodes where he was constantly tripping on shit and about as threatening as a kitten.

@DustinTL @dallywhitty It wouldn’t have mattered. People would still be wanting modern remakes today. When the justification for remaking 4 besides graphics is “not being able to move and shoot,” you realize a very sizable portion of gamers suck at actually adapting to a game’s mechanics.

@DustinTL I think the real point behind the skirt thing that people have completely missed is that the point of it wasn’t to “objectify” Ashley, but poke fun at the player for trying to look up her skirt in the first place. The fact that a funny little gag is too “offensive”now is sad.

@DustinTL I saw Gman criticizing people for calling Ashley/Ada "ugly." Which is silly, but in Ada's case, she just looks so boring now. Yeah, it's realistic, but its so bland compared to the OG flower dress. Nothing screams badass like running around on high heels with a grappling hook.
