With HQ we showed the world the future of TV. We didn’t get to where we hoped but we did stretch the world’s imagination for what’s possible on our smartphones. Thanks to everyone who helped build this and thanks for playing.
So sad to hear about the passing of my friend and co-founder Colin Kroll. My thoughts & prayers go out to his loved ones. I will forever remember him for his kind soul and big heart. He made the world and internet a better place. Rest in peace, brother.

Something we’ve been iterating on
#NetNeutrality
is one of the main reasons we're able to make a show like
@hqtrivia
. The handful of co's pushing to repeal are all monopolies, it doesn't improve their products. The other 99% of us need Net Neutrality to stay. Keep spreading the word until the vote Dec 14.
6/ If you have ideas on how to make chapter 2 of HQ even better than chapter 1, I want to hear it. Reply with your feedback. I’ll compile and organize it and make sure the new owners see it. That’s it for now. More to come.
Last week we brought
@hqtrivia
back to the people, awarded thousands of dollars in prize money, and helped some enormously deserving charities at the front line of the COVID-19 pandemic:
4/ So I spent the weekend on the phone finding a new buyer and do right by everyone. We have found a new home for HQ, with a company that wants to keep it running. All employees, contractors and players are top priority. Severance will be paid and you will be able to cash out.
5/ Not a done deal yet, but I’m optimistic. In its new home, we should expect HQ to go through some changes, especially to cover expenses, and be less buggy.
3/ In the face of all that, I was amazed at the outpouring of love I still saw from players. You shared how much HQ meant to you and how much you’d miss it. You also shared your frustration about not being able to cash out, which is fair.
2/ Friday was a very hard day. HQ ran out of cash, there was a potential acquisition of the company which fell through abruptly, and worst of all, we couldn’t afford even severance for the 25 employees it pained me to let go.
Some say Vine is back, but I disagree. Vine is gone and we should let it rest in peace.
#Byte
is something new and different, and we should all look at it that way. I'm looking forward to seeing how the community evolves and becomes something the world hasn't seen before.
Much respect to
@hqtrivia
hosts. Takes calm cool, charisma, creativity. It's a new kind of performance art & it's really tough. I hosted a year of shows myself in beta - hopefully no one ever sees those...
2017: wow. Incredibly proud of the team’s accomplishments with
@hqtrivia
in a matter of months. Definitely areas to improve too, gonna be cranking it up in 2018.
It’s fun... but Before Tik tok there was Musically and before that was Mindie, the first true innovation in video creation since Vine. Mindie doesn’t get the credit it deserves for pioneering lip-sync video creation. The ‘fastmo/slomo’ recording was genius.
3 back-to-back games of HQ next Sunday at 8p ET to celebrate our 1st birthday 🎂
Grab some smart friends to play with... we’re having Scott call groups who are playing together 📞
While some tech companies are selling your private data, tweaking elections or being called to appear before Congress, we're focused on making advertising something that people actually don't mind.
.
@Vine
is a time capsule of diverse culture and creative expression. It should be an active twitter account sharing retro vines, giving people entertainment and joy. Even dead apps can be alive in social media
Competition sucks, right?
No. It allows for products to improve, become available to more people, at lower costs. Strive to build new things that people want and influence other creators for the cycle to continue.
My favorite part of HQ is the people!
@ckb
and I pulled the company together for a team photo. Proud to call these folks teammates, and friends.
#HQYear1
Most companies use FB/Insta ads to sell products and services, but it can be used for so much more. Been using it to test unreleased product ideas, and it’s great.
My thanks to all the HQ team members who made this possible, to the fans who showed up and played, and supporters of the mission who stepped up to make this happen. ❤️🙏🙏🙌🙌
Interesting and well written. But I’m not buying it. "Black Mirror" is about worst-case scenarios of irresponsible tech, but we’re not trying to create a platform for the irresponsible to drive everyone off a cliff. HQ is about fun & learning, not profit & deception.
Snapchat put together this story for the community growing around
@hqtrivia
. That was the best part of Vine, this is starting to feel like the best part of HQ.
Looking through old files... The idea for
@hqtrivia
originated from this concept I created and developed in 2015 at my studio
@bighuman
and pitched to
@ISS_CASIS
Our team is aware of a technical issue that prevented questions from appearing in some cases.
We’re focused on fixing this and will reply to this tweet with updates. Thanks for your patience. ❤️
Still excited about last night,
@hqtrivia
is inches away from that $Million prize (thanks
@toonblast
!) AND we launched a pilot of
@HQSports
to a select squad of players
We autoplayed Vines because it improved the product. Done well, it removes barriers to content & people maintain control. Done badly it’s unhealthy. We should be banning bad business, not good design.
