Shortly after I moved to Ghana in October 2017 I ran the Accra International Marathon where I first met William Amponsah. I came 2nd in the 10K race and he had won the 21k race by an absolute mile. William was only 17 but showed great potential so I helped him out...1/4

William ran a 21 second PB tonight in a time of 13 minutes and 51 seconds, breaking his own National Record and placing 13th out of 20 runners. A tremendous achievement and, at the age of 22, he has a decade or more of top level running ahead of him. Congratulations William

In partnership with @AthleticsGhana we have secured William Amponsah an Elite place at the Great North Run in Newcastle, UK on 11th September. This is the world's largest Half Marathon with over 60,000 runners. William will be the first ever Ghanaian Elite to run the GNR.

Whilst we were in the North East Region we paid a visit to the new STEM SHS in Kpasenkpe. Teachers are committed to applying what they are learning in their PLCs and are excited about the new STEM curriculum. Early days still but the potential here is enormous.

Today I am in Wa where I am an observer at the @gheduservice Upper West Regional Oversight Committee meeting. Chaired by the Regional Director of Education, this monthly meeting plays a critical role in overseeing progress on secondary education reforms across all SHS and SHTS.

We arrived late at Gowrie SHTS and weren't able to attend their weekly PLC session so we were very pleased to meet officers from Bongo District Education Office who had sat-in to monitor the PLC. Regular monitoring and support from DEOs will help these reforms to succeed.

Today we visited St John's Integrated SHS in Navrongo. 76 of the school's 818 learners are hearing impaired and, after a foundation year, they are taught in mixed classes with support from 11 dedicated interpreters. An inclusive environment where all learners know how to sign.

Today I'm at Benso SHTS in Western Region to celebrate with the school on their 30th anniversary. Benso SHTS is one of the first 12 SHSs/SHTSs to introduce weekly PLC sessions back in early 2022. The school is also currently trialling the new Applied Technology curriculum.

On Sunday I ran the Tokyo Marathon with Liam Butler, a fellow Royston Runner. We have both now gained our World Marathon Majors 6 Star Medals by running Chicago, London, Boston, New York, Berlin & Tokyo- an epic journey which has taken us over five years to complete!

I enjoyed spending time today with Mary and the P3 pupils of Jubilee Catholic Boys School in Cape Coast as we learnt about clocks and telling the time. At the end of the lessons pupils had a discussion and voted on how they could improve their school- they chose "more textbooks'

This morning I was at @uew_official for Day Four of @NTC_GH 's mandatory two week Pedagogy Training for NSS Personnel. Service Personnel were learning about differentiaton and assessment and are becoming increasingly enthusiastic about teaching in SHSs and SHTSs. @TTELGhana

Today we participated in Amasaman SHTS's weekly PLC session. I thanked the staff for all their excellent work in teaching T-TEL's Communications Officer, Hannah Tinyep Mobya, who was a Visual Arts student (2009 to 2013). Hannah pictured with the teachers who helped her succeed.

We are at Koforidua today for a @nacca_ghana and @gheduservice curriculum trial workshop. We participated in a very interactive Literature in English lesson taken from the new SHS curriculum and are now running a feedback session to identify key features and characteristics.

Today we are holding our 3rd and final @gheduservice SHS and SHTS Board Summit in Tamale. Across this week's 3 events we have held conversations with 384 participants from 96 schools. Boards are enthusiastic about the new SHS curriculum and their role in implementation.

I met the Regional Director of Education for Bono East, Mrs Efua A.D. Amuah, and her Regional Monitoring Team. The Team is very committed, passionate and enthusiastic. They shared stories of how SHS teachers are seeing the effectiveness and impact of learner-centred approaches.

In Lambussie for the first day of Managing for Learning stakeholder sessions. Two groups, students and teachers, took part in today's sessions. I helped to facilitate the students group and was very impressed with their contributions and proposed solutions @Foundation_JF

At Swedru SHS, PLC Coordinators had the opportunity to hear from the Honourable Deputy Minister for Education @NtimFordjour and Central Regional Director of Education about the importance of weekly PLCs in ensuring that teachers are fully prepared to teach the new curriculum.

I'm in Cape Coast today to meet with the Central Regional Director of Education and the Regional Technical Team to hear about progress made on secondary education reforms. Excellent innovations, including organising PLC progress review meetings with all 75 Heads of SHSs & SHTSs.

Today we are at Ogyeedom SHTS in Central Region. The students told us that they find lessons to be much more interactive, practical and easy to understand since @gheduservice introduced weekly Professional Learning Community (PLC) sessions for their teachers earlier last year.
