Fun @subsoapp story: Our pubsub node (primary ingest service, handling ~4.5m pieces of content per day at peak) had a memory leak for years. I never added an autorestart cron since I didn't want to forget about it So I manually restarted it twice a day for 600+ days:

peace of mind hack: invest in solid e2e tests, run against prod on a regular cadence (we do every 30m at Primer) and hook up to pagerduty nice to know the second anything breaks i’ll know/be woken up, especially living in PT and running critical infra for ET schools

e2e tests continue to be underrated. Yes, they are slower to run than unit tests, and usually take longer to write, but a good e2e test lasts forever, no matter how often you change the implementation. It's the only kind of test I want to write anymore. It's worth the extra work.
