๐ฅณ๐ง๐Ten years ago today, I tried to sway a few coworkers to use Zsh. I created a new project on
@Github
called
@ohmyzsh
and shared it with them (and then on my blog a few days later).

There have been several dev layoffs recently with fewer job openings.
Do you know of an org hiring Ruby on
@Rails
developers right now?
If so, please help spread the word by leaving a link in the thread below. ๐ท
O(h-my)-BRIGADO!
It was so lovely meeting so many new

Thanks for saying hola ๐, sharing your inspiring stories, the pair of
๐งต Congrats, it's 2034. You're still responsible for that Ruby on Rails application.
No, you never got a green light to rewrite in some new fancy not-yet-released framework back in the summer of 2029.
Rails 12.1.x has just been released.
What programming book do you feel had the biggest impact on your code/work?
sub-Qs: Where were you in your career and would you still recommend it today?
Rails is the Radiohead of software frameworks.
Think about it: Radiohead's been a well-known band since the mid-90s[1], but theyโre not just rocking their first few hits. They've moved from alt-rock to electronic and beyond, always pushing the sonic envelope.
Similarly, Rails
The three types of devs that I meet in the wild.
1. Devs that ๐ฉต

2. Devs who don't know wtf

3. Devs who awkwardly apologize for no longer using

Now that the Fed has cut rates, I can finally get to work building and launching a new JavaScript framework for everyone to rewrite their frontends with.
I believe gem open to be one of the least utilized commands to run by RoR developers. No need to browse the source code online.
You can load it up in your favorite editor like so.
Are you ready to get excited,

We're thrilled to announce that the

๐ Hello, Rails World attendees!
Next week, I'm moderating an AMA panel in Amsterdam with ๐ of the current Rails Core team members at the conference.
Attendees can submit their questions ahead of time.

Has your Ruby on Rails app been showing it's age for quite some time? Regularly fighting technical debt? Inherited a mess?
I have a little something for you...
According to zsh_stats.. dig is the 7th most common CLI utility I use. A minor annoyance is needing to take a full URL and wanting to get the DNS records but having to manually copy/paste/edit out the hostname.
..so I just made this for my

Annoyance is gone!
Hey there! ๐ I recently hosted a fun AMA with 10 out of 12 Rails Core team members at
#RailsWorld
2023 in Amsterdam. We covered several topics about how the team collaborates and approaches decisions during the session.

Wonderful time at
#RailsWorld
. Got to spend quality time with so many devs who love both Ruby and Rails. I asked the audience to stand up if they had code merged into Rails. Wow!
Also asked how many started using it in the last yearโฆand there were many hands up.
๐ Ruby on Rails is dead. ๐
(...actually, over half of the devs said their teams are growing and we had the highest % jump in respondents since we started this in 2009)

Engineering teams are hurting.
Why? Many of them made ambitious architectural and platform decisions under the expectation that as their product scaled up, so would their team size.
But your engineering team isn't going to keep growing.
It's likely to be smaller in the
We hired a highly experienced and recommended subcontractor many years ago to work onsite with a client. We were confused when the client canceled our engagement, claiming that we weren't delivering anything of value.

I ran 1,700 miles in 2023. No major injuries. Several pairs of shoes. Lots of rain. A litle sun. A touch of sand. Lots of old bricks. Some dirt. Many puddles. So many moments waiting for the walk sign to turn green. Lots of dog barks. A few cats to stop and let me pet. Murders of
Am really trying to be open-minded about these patterns of using
@rails
as a backend/API and then using a JS framework for the front-end... because it'll separate things out nicely... in theory... but what we're really seeing is..
Do you have the colorize plugin loaded,

Bored of experienced devs talking about what they think we need to do to support jr devs. Iโm far more interested in seeing what jr devs can do. How? We hire them. We invest in them. We learn with them. They move up/on. We hire more jrs. We host internships. We make the time. ๐ค๏ธ
