UPDATE: The first victim, a female Rice student, was found shot at Jones this afternoon, a uni spokesperson said to the Thresher. The second victim was a male, unaffiliated with Rice, found with a self-inflicted gunshot. Both pronounced dead at the scene. No sign of forced entry.

Rice admitted 7.5% of their applicants to the Class of 2028 yesterday, according to the Office of Admission. Acceptance rates hit 7.7% and 8.6% in 2023 and 2022, respectively. This marks the third consecutive year of record-low acceptance rates for Rice. Story TK.

NEW: After a student-filed discrimination complaint, Rice ordered the Student Association to indefinitely table their BDS resolution, originally timed for a vote as early as April 1. It would have blocked SA-disbursed funds (some $400k) from going to companies on the BDS list.

My coeditor @PrayagGordy and I just reported on Rice’s involvement with architect David Adjaye, who was recently accused of sexual misconduct. Rice is currently reevaluating its relationship with Adjaye Associates moving forward.

BREAKING: David Adjaye, the founder and principal of the firm designing Rice’s new student center, has been accused of sexual misconduct by three former employees. @FT reported on July 3 that the allegations “range from sexual assault to harassment.”

The Department of Education is already investigating Rice for alleged Title VI violations, according to the Office of Civil Rights. The active investigation was launched July 30 — predating MLFA’s complaint by nearly two weeks — but its specific nature is unknown.
