Just a random example of why you really shouldn't want to use certain plugins. Anything above 500ms is really bad for performance, but you really want to be much much lower. So, three bad ones like this equals a bad performing WordPress site.

Quick #WordPress Hack: Avoid mix-ups when working across multiple environments (local, staging, production). Set distinct admin color schemes for each! My go-to? 🌅 Midnight for production and 👻 Ectoplasm on the rest.

It’s time to admit that Remote Work doesn’t work. WFH Friday is a 4 day work week. Full WFH is a 2 day work week. Every interaction has to be scheduled, which means a lot of information-sharing doesn’t happen. Remote is a great lifestyle, not a way to build a great company.

We really should stop calling our new editors "Gutenberg". The Block Editor is what you use for content. So, pages, posts, etc. The Site Editor is what you use to build the site. Both are products from the Gutenberg Project. This is right up there with not writing WordPress

This whole notion that obscurity of login pages is somehow making your WordPress site actually more secure needs to die off. Automated probes know how to find that anyway. Focus on the real security like, server hardening, super strong passwords & 2FA.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: you're not making WordPress faster by "turning on caching". Rescued another (new) client this week from a developer who had 2(!!) cache plugins installed. And the site was still slow when and where it mattered. SMDH.

If you have to use Jetpack (don't recommend it), let me show you what I use on every Jetpack site: add_filter( 'jetpack_just_in_time_msgs', '__return_false' ); This gets rid of all those pesky Jetpack notices. You're welcome.

Calvin is spot on here. If you find yourself being hurt because of WordPress 6.4 not being able to use cURL anymore, then I dare say your problem is not 6.4, but your problem is bad hosting.

So, are we all just going to ignore that some of the largest WP hosting companies are running 10 years out of data cURL versions and then go around and blame WP Core? cURL 7.29.0 comes in at a whopping 78 security vulnerabilities as of today.

A 13 year old WordPress Performance ticket was closed that will now allow WordPress scripts to support “async” and “defer” attributes. Giving developers more control on when scripts are loaded and thus performance.

I don't know who needs to hear this but... You don't want solve you security, backups, and caching within WordPress. All of those belong either in front of WordPress or handled by the server.

We're building an API integration for one of our clients that will pull in millions of records (objects with data), updated weekly. Now, a lot of folks would be inclined to add store them as a custom post type with custom fields. We're going fully custom db tables, though.
