Flight attendants and their unions fought hard to ban smoking on airlines because flight attendants were in those smokey tubes all day every day. Studies showed significant increases of various types of cancers in flight attendants.
UAW members who work in casinos disrupted a New Jersey state Assembly committee hearing by lighting cigarettes and blowing smoke toward legislators.
The workers are furious that a bill to ban smoking in the casinos looks bound to fail.
Peanuts are the 7th most valuable cash crop in the U.S, contributing over $4 billion to the economy every year.
But two companies process most U.S. peanuts.
So now, peanut farmers are forming their own co-ops to take on Big Peanut—and succeeding. Thread.
The ADHD urge to take on an unbelievably ambitious new project, in a field you previously have no experience in, with the full expectation that you’ll “figure it out somehow” along the way.
Oh my GOD I am OBSESSED with this persona. These photos posted several days apart have the same coffee cup. Not similar coffee cups, the SAME cup. Note the shape of the stain on the lid. It's the same dress, same photo session, just recolored, background changed.

What kills me about Homer's character is how ruthlessly he's shamed about his weight but it's canonically only like 239lbs. And of course there's an episode where famously tries to hit 300lbs so he can "get disability" which is ... let's be charitable and call it cringe
If advertising is a form of payment, and blocking ads is theft, then Amazon is lying about the price of Prime staying the same with the addition of ads to Prime Video.
The price of Prime has increased.
@IanColdwater
There's probably an Amazon warehouse nearby where you can make good friends with a tape gun and you are discouraged from talking to other employees.
@deanbphillips
This is literally an unconstitutional take.
What sense does it make to allow people to play a game they are known to cheat in? Ban cheaters. Ban those who participate in insurrection.
This is the Founders take, and why the 14th exists.

For the uninitiated: Nara Aziza Smith (nee Pellman) is a fashion model, the second wife of Lucky Blue Smith, who is a member of the LDS church and also a fashion model. She has three kids with him. He's got one from his previous marriage with Stormi Bree Henley.
I'm in Dearborn, MI. So, let me introduce you to Flock Safety. Flock sells automated license plate reading as a service to companies, communities, and municipalities.
Flock's key selling point is lightweight, managed infrastructure. Most of which is solar powered and cellular.
As a security professional of 15 years, fuck captchas. Fuck them all the way to hell.
I have to solve dozens a day now. Literally dozens. At home, at work. Unsubscribing from spam. Ordering food. Trying to use a website I've already solved 6 that day for.
This month I ended my weekly talk therapy sessions after 2 years. I wasn't displeased, frustrated, or felt like I was wasting my money.
I was just not in need of weekly therapy anymore.
Every part of my life is in a better place now so we say "so long, for now" to the schedule.
Someone posted a joke about cursors but then I realized I didn't actually know why we call them cursors.
We get it from slide rules. Cursor is Latin for "runner".
As my Discovery+ renewal comes up, I was reviewing the... available content.
The decision I made is that How It's Made should be nationalized by the federal government and liberated from this content prison.

The way every previous cryptanalytic breakthrough has been first theory, then attacks that work on specific types of keys, or implementations, then over time the efficiency increases.
Hard to believe any one achievement instantly breaks /ALL/ RSA-2048

You're really bad at making this argument, however correct it may be.
Presidents have dozens of assistants, advisors, and colleagues prepared to assist in the smallest of descisions.
There are only two flight certified pilots on a plane.
You cannot literally push a button.
@deanbphillips
You once prided yourself in not taking money from corp donors, but now you're out for Elon's approval. Trying to ingratiate yourself to big tech?
Whine about being cancelled by your party on podcasts and TV all you want. You're not fooling anyone into thinking you have integrity
The fact that people today feel comfortable looking back at Y2K and laughing is because enough people took the problem seriously and fixed it before anything catastrophic could occur.
It was a real problem, fixing it took real work. Even if many just remember it as a joke. 🧵
@signalapp
No disrespect to the lovely designers, but I just want a shirt that communicates "Contact me securely on Signal." Evangelism, not stylish branding. Signal isn't Supreme. It's not a luxury brand. Its intent is egalitarian.
This is SO WEIRD
> The USDA is updating an important map for gardeners and growers picking plants and flowers. The new map shows the contiguous U.S. is about 2.5 degrees Fahrenheit warmer than the last map 11 years ago.

Imagine being a politician giving two giant thumbs up to broad human rights violations against 2,000,000 civilians as part of a scheme to punish a government holding political prisoners.

If I wanted this guy to retire from tech grifting and get into podcast grifting, I'd say this would make a good Netflix miniseries.
Incidents don't have a root cause, they have contributing factors. Losing eyes your root certificate is a symptom of something systemic at an organization whose product and culture is literally built on asymmetric cryptography.
(BTW, the root cause of the outage was that the root CA we ship with the Keybase client expired after 10 years of valiant service. We have some internal dependencies on Keybase working, so recovery was complicated.)
I've been all over the country the last few years. Not a single person has confronted me about or asked me why I'm still wearing a mask. Until today, an acquaintance of mine asked.
Several people in my office tested positive last week. 🤷♂️Friends don't ask this question.

Why do we do anything between thanksgiving and new years? Seems like a big problem for people to be busy this time of year, and we should address that.
This is a shareholder move.
The Windows key could serve the same function, but Microsoft needs to sell the idea that they have a single clue what they're doing in the LLM space (they don't, just like how Windows search has worked for a decade).
I looked at all 2,123 Minnesota state flag submissions! I won't be dunking on bad ones, but sharing great ones.
First, the guidelines for "Good" Flag, "Bad" Flag according to the North American Vexillological Association, then discuss Minnesota symbolism

As someone who does quite a bit of vector and CAD design, I usually make something geometrically perfect, then put away the precision tools to make it look asthetically pleasing, so stuff like this does not bother me at all.
Too much symmetry is uncanny valley for brains.

I gotta share, I was watching ep 5 on Nebula and I was pacing and jumping around my living room through most of it
Y'all are killing it. I love the wholesome, earnest fun, and a very well designed game which injects the perfect amount of suspense

As those ugly wire shelves replaced ugly painted wood shelves, and those shelves replaced ugly stained wood shelves, the cycle is now complete!
I need to design a simple circuit board. It's just an array of LEDs in the shape of letters to make a sign. It's gonna have LEDs, current limiting resistors, and a way to connect power. The big stumbling block I have is I need to overlay a vector file to position the LEDs. Ideas?
I'm playing Timberborn, and what I really need is Timberborn with online co-op mode. Satisfactory got a co-op mode. Are there any other civ/city builders with online co-op?

Seems like Biden is not the problem, but the change in power and perception of the role.
People dislike the president because congress holds all the purse strings, and hamstring the president's agenda.

The first time I traveled to Poland for two weeks one ENTIRE BAG was snacks I knew I'd need because the food was weird.
I was entirely vindicated.
Quoting this a third time to remind everyone that this exploit is benign, except that it reveals memorized training data, and LLMs should not memorize training data. Memorization is an undesirable artifact.
OpenAI is trying to hide its training data by blocking this.
New: asking ChatGPT to repeat words "forever" is now a terms of service violation.
This comes after Google researchers used the tactic to get ChatGPT to reveal its training data, including peoples' personal information
