Exciting news! My first book, The Real Diana Dors, published by
@WhiteOwlBooks
is now available to order from Waterstones, Foyles, Amazon, and your favourite independent book shop if you ask them nicely.
Why does ‘new’ always have to mean young? What if you didn’t find your mojo until you were over 35? Whatever the field, the arts, STEM, being a football club mascot, whatever. Why can’t we champion all new voices, regardless of age?
Oh my goodness, look who arrived this afternoon. I’ve written an actual book! I feel ever so proud of myself and super excited. Isn’t she beautiful ❤️.
Please take a moment to enjoy my brother's found playing card collection. Curated over the last 25 years from cards he's found in the street. No donations, only ones he has happened upon by chance. There is family concern about what'll happen when it's finally completed though...
My daughter loves trains and cats, so we’ve decided to visit as many UK train station cats as we possibly can. Please let me know if your local train station has a resident cat. Thanks 😊.
When I interviewed
@reece_dinsdale
recently, he talked with such love about his dad. Sadly his dad has passed away. So I'm sharing this again as a little tribute.
We lost our lovely Nan to COVID. Flo was almost 100, an absolute joy to be around, and we were so lucky to have her in our lives for so long. She worked on the Lancaster Bomber during WW2 and was a lifelong Liverpool FC devotee. Here she is aged 98 about to make her TV debut.
Two youngish blokes ahead of me in Greggs buying bacon rolls, work gear on, talking about rawl plugs or whatever. One of them looks out of the window, a slightly pained look on his face. He sighs and says to his mate, ‘I just saw (girl’s name) go past…can’t believe it.’ (1/2)
…I actually dreamt about her last night…we were still together, and then there she is.’
His mate simply puts a hand on his shoulder and says, ‘Love of your life mate.’ and they stand in companionable silence while they wait for their breakfast. (2/2)

Not celebrity related, but in the late 90s I interviewed a couple who’d met on the internet (unusual then) and she’d come over from the US to be with him. The interview itself was dull, but next day I woke up to news that she’d stabbed him that evening and been arrested.
Delighted to announce my British television debut this Saturday evening. Not as a Strictly Come Dancing contestant, but as a contributor to a new documentary called Diana Dors: Britain’s Blonde Bombshell - Channel 5, 9.10pm.
I prefer to celebrate her life, but today marks 40 years since Diana Dors passed away, aged just 52. She was a fabulous and fascinating woman and a uniquely British star. Here’s one of my favourite photos of her at Cannes in 1956, a special moment in her career.

delightfully solid tail-less wonder. What she lacks in tail she makes up for in sass, strutting her stuff on the catwalk like a boss. 10/10 for style and substance, totally on-trend.
Lovely to remind myself about Friends Reunited, where I once contacted a bloke I’d sat next to in uni tutorials for three straight terms, just a year or so earlier, and who responded saying he didn’t remember me at all. Hi Jamie, hope you’re well 👋

this is Shouty McShoutyface. Every time I see him, he shouts at me because I won’t let him into his house. I explain patiently that I don’t live there and don’t have a key, but this is unacceptable to him. Still 9/10 though.

Find someone who looks at you the way this cat looked at me. Their love was instant, so intense, overwhelming. I’m not sure I’ll ever recover. 10/10 (+1 bonus point for chasing me down the street asking me to come back).

I wasn't sure of my Christmas bin collection dates, so I downloaded this handy new app and bin cat magically appeared and informed me. 9/10 for seasonal snow theme.
Twitter is basically us lot posting heartfelt comments we think people might relate to, or crafting the perfect whimsical observation and feeling delighted when six people agree. Then someone with a blue tick tweets ‘Aren’t biscuits amazing?!’ and gets 50000 likes.

in an amazing plot twist, this aloof neighbourhood beauty finally said hello and allowed approximately seven seconds of fuss. It's only been three years of trying. It was worth the wait though. 11/10.
Watching When Harry Met Sally. I must’ve watched it 30 times but I never get tired of it. Also it is just over 90 minutes long so it’s perfect 😊. Can men and women ever just be friends though?
So today is my birthday, and I am 44 years old. Obviously it’s going to be a pretty quiet one this year, so here’s a photo from a previous birthday, when I was at least allowed three friends over for tea.

A trip into Leeds to pick up my daughter’s new glasses, and a visit to the LEGO shop, the weekend before lockdown I think. If you don’t take a photo of all the heads, are you even in the LEGO shop?
Rather tipsy middle aged couple on the train leaving Leeds. Man opposite asks if they’ve been in town shopping. Bloke replies, “We meant to. Went to one shop this morning and realised we didn’t need owt, so we went to the pub.”
Managed to get a supermarket shopping delivery slot, but the substitutions are like, ‘you ordered fabric softener, here’s Ulysses by James Joyce instead’.
Two years ago today I celebrated having my first bit of film writing published in a magazine (the brilliant
@filmstoriespod
) and now I’m thinking about how I’m going to celebrate my first book coming out in a few months. Dream big folks 😊.
Two young women chatting in the bus queue in town.
‘How was the date?’
‘It wasn’t great. The restaurant was really nice, but when he asked me what I wanted for dessert I panicked and said Viennetta.’
Which scene in a film or tv show always gets you right in the heart, even though you’ve watched it repeatedly?
I always react the same way when I watch Dawn and Tim finally get together in The Office Christmas Special, tears and a reaffirmation that true love exists.
What’s your favourite misheard song lyric? I’ve got a soft spot for Madonna giving Anna Friel a name check on Ray of Light.
‘Anna Friel like I just got home,
Anna Friel’.
I’ve had six writing pitch rejections this week (five arrived in a 24 hour window.) Harsh. But I did something I haven’t done before and pushed back on one of them, and it’s now a yes!
I’m delighted to be able to give you a preview of the cover of my forthcoming book, The Real Diana Dors, which is out next summer. It’s got my name on it and everything. How exciting! And how lovely does our Diana look? 😍
My ten year old daughter asked me ‘would you rather have a job you hate for double the money, or a job you love for half the money?’ so I explained that’s literally what being an adult is all about.
Daisy won a massive teddy bear in a raffle yesterday. We talked about what she might do with it. This morning she announced they've set up a detective agency together.

"He used to bring me roses, perhaps he will again? But that was on the outside, things were different then." 9/10 for trying to break out for a fuss. 1/10 for not realising she could just walk around the fence.
@thecatreviewer
encountered this wise old cat on my travels through a rural village. Comfort and friendship were given, and I returned their generosity of spirit with a fuss and a shoulder massage before they bid us safe passage. 10/10 for chilled vibes.
A tiny girl in a stripy summer dress rides past me on her equally tiny bicycle, then comes back towards me saying ‘look what I can do!’ before riding round in a circle. I feel so proud of the tiny stranger.
@thecatreviewer
regular neighbourhood favourite giving support in difficult times. She administered love and dribbles, then sat on my foot and wouldn’t let me leave. I live here on this pavement now. 10/10 please wash your hands.
@thecatreviewer
two tatty old courageous lions come face to face. We've known this local for many years, 11/10 for still guarding their territory like a pro.
New lad working in the place I get my coffee this morning, very cute. I make my purchase, prepare to leave. He turns, looks at me shyly and hesitates, ‘Excuse me...’ I return to the counter, feeling flattered, ‘Your card payment didn’t go through.’
I lost my Nan to COVID this year. My dad came round earlier saying he had something for me, and it was her necklace. It has her birthstone and mine, and it means so much to have such a special reminder of her. She didn’t have much, but I know she treasured this, and so will I.
I joined Twitter 10 years ago as a tired new mum in need of company. This place has supported me through that, long term illness, job problems, stress, my daughter’s Selective Mutism, me taking on a second career as a writer. I’ve made friends and had a laugh. Thanks everyone ❤️.
This week has been awful, and I now have three members of my family in hospital with COVID, including my lovely 99 year old Nan. I’m trying to carry on with stuff, keep myself distracted, but I feel so overwhelmingly sad with it all when I stop. It’s just all so sh*tty isn’t it?
PODCAST IDEA: Call My Filmbluff - where people talk about films they haven't actually seen as if they have and a panel of people try to guess the film. I am available to play Frank Muir.
Someone who humiliated me when I was a young and inexperienced journalist twenty years ago, has been made to look like a right idiot on here today. And yes I do have a long memory.
