Good stuff. Rex started keeping the Will the weak stack, and the $$ in the 9, same as other fronts. When we want a 5-1, we Nickel for the Will, and he is the adjuster, and we play Single or Rotation. When in 5-2, we play man/cut or Exchange.

Found another great use for @RichieGrayGSI wrap and roll level 1 pads besides tackling. DE's knocking the edge off a down block and running the circle under a kick-out. Short pad makes the DE stay low to get hands on the OT and mandates a powerful hand strike. Get off the Ball!

Most underrated aspect of a complete 46 defensive package is ability to play 2 high principles from a 1 high shell. Good example of a swipe 2 man. Jack w/ a butch tech (collision RB before pass rush) helps protect Mike in coverage on RB release to open side of formation.

So many DC's don't understand the "piggyback" concept by the Fold player, which allows the ILB's to 2-gap. Must follow H, as the Offense is adding on the other way. The Fold Player should "Tango" with the 5 tech on based on the OT's block. Great example.

That Will is actually our Mike. We want him to "spill" this to the alley player, which would be our Will who is stacked behind the open 5.

Good stuff. In all the clips, the 3Tech is away from the back. In our 4-3 Over Front, we would slide the 3Tech to the trips, to alleviate the pressure on that seam LB to fit B Gap, so he can sit/sort. We put our Mike in the open A, and opposite seam LB in B gap.

OU playing 2 high with 3 down vs trips so it has to flex out a box LB to protect middle of field vert threat. LSU won’t let him play run and pass. A 2x move is available for a nosey high safety.

Man Free is not great vs. QB run. The Off is playing with 11, and the Def is essentially playing with 10 due to a Single High Safety. Single Cheat is a cov we stole from Bud Foster at V-Tech to play Man-Free, with the Single High "cheating" to play run first, then MOF on Pass.

Teach the 1 (shade), 3, 5, 9 all the same. Base/Reach= get hips in the hole and maintain gap. Double Team counts as Base. Down= Knock the edge off and close LOS to spill. Get to the A Gap and run the circle if kick out. First threat into LOS. High Hat= pass rush mode.

Great way to get numbers back on Counter. DE reads H or OT, if they pull, he mirrors behind the LOS to give the Defense numbers to the pull side. Normally have them check A Gap, but the 3 tech gets crammed, so DE plays over the top. Great vs Counter Teams.

This week's 90 is so good and does things that are absurd play of the week as he imitates a MLB from his DE spot and mirrors all the way down to make the stop. Goofy.

Great job of the 5 tech playing the hip of the OT and not getting scooped. Tough to make young guys understand. 6" power step on the snap to the hip of the OT and shoots his hands and keeps running his feet at contact. Great technique. Excellent point about fold players.

Want to start a "Sound Defense" chat. What is "sound"? For us: 1) Under 1, Under 2, Over 2 on CNTR/PWR (Dive,QB,Pitch) 2) +1 in Pass Cov.: 2 on 1 / 3 - 2 / 4 - 3, w/ one guy being a Deep Defender 3) Force player NOT a Deep Defender Obviously, blitzing/stunting overrides this.

Buddy Ryan running "Man Match". Underneath defenders have "Trail" position, w/ help over the top. Field concept is "Swipe" = #2 goes flat, the flat defender takes. 2 is up / in, seam defender takes. Seam has 2 unless he is flat, then robs 1. Boundary = man/cloud/trap. Long ago.

Talking about Man Match coverage... 1989 and the NFL is running MM. 'Cover 7' isn't new to the NFL world. It's been around for a long time.

Top 10 NCAA Rush overall record of 62-26 (70% Win). Top 10 NCAA Pass overall record of 67-29 (70% Win). Interesting topic. Schools leading Passing, half Power 5 schools, teams leading Rushing, majority Group of 5 schools. Maybe it has to do with where you are at?
