HIV wasn't discovered until AFTER people started getting rare diseases: CMV, Kaposi sarcoma, fungal infections,toxoplasmosis. Most were initially asymptomatic. Now↗️strep A, fungal infections, reactivated Shingles. All show Immune deficiency .1/

C19 hides in macorophages (they eat & kill intruders) & "cloaks" itself, blinding the immune system to its presence. It erases immune memory of other pathogens, which makes U > prone 2 catching them (measles does 2). It reactivates Epstein Barr & Varicella. Am I getting through?

I cancelled my Toronto Star subscription after 30 + years. I don't like the direction it seems to be heading in. I also don't trust the new owners to adhere to the Atkinson principles the paper has been published under to this point in time. My recycling bin has more room too.

I work in an academic teaching hospital with doctors from around the world. Medical education is not the same everywhere,that's why we insist on a period of retraining to evaluate their graduates. This requires residency spots alloted by, you guessed it...the provinces.

@JanisAwake While the pertussis vaccine is +safe, that doesn't mean they never harm. A degree of reaction is common & expected, such as fever, fussyness, lethargy & sometimes vomiting. Hospital admission post-vaccination is very rare. Anaphylaxis is the only contraindication for a booster.

I'm a healthcare professional & fully support mandatory vaccinations in healthcare settings. If 1 doesn't trust the science then 1 has no business being in a profession dependent on it. Would u go to an oncologist who doesn't believe in chemo or thinks cancer isn't that serious?

This is disgraceful. A Toronto hospital is refusing an obstetrician's note ordering a 42 year old pregnant women at 36 weeks gestation to stay off work. Pregnant women are at high risk for COVID-19 complications. Great way to treat frontline staff.

@BethH_persist @Pete1272612 So much was aweful. A dearly departed love expressed his thoughts at the absurdity of a cut from falling in the hospital was healing. The worst were places that refused to recognise the validity of the relationship between same sex partners, not allowing them to see them.

@SjamaanN Before indoor plumbing, chamber pots were used. These were emptied via a window & the contents landed closer to the street than the building. The gentleman walked to the right to prevent a lady from wearing the contents thereof.

@JaymetheRN Agreed. The war on opioids has cast too large a net. They work very well for many without them becoming addicted or tolerant. Monitor for signs of abuse, tolerance & addiction while maintaining strict control over distribution yes, but don't take them out of the toolbox entirely.

Hi, I'm Rob. I live in Toronto, Canada. I work in a hospital. I mask b/c I know how bad COVID can b & I don't want 2 get it, nor give it 2 someone else. I haven't been sick since 2018. N95 masks work. I don't care if U look @ me strangely, I'm too old 4 that peer pressure thing.

@KashPrime Had this when I was 5. Our family doctor drove me to the hospital at 4 a.m. with a fever of 105. There was no IV penicillin then, I still remember how painful the injections were, 3 x a day😭

@ETSshow @DoktedFlinflon I once attended the resuscitation of a newborn prem sans gloves. Unbeknownst 2 all of us the mother was newly infected with herpes. A week later I had a herpes blister <1cm from my left eye. (The looks I get when I tell people I got herpes from a baby!) Hard lesson learned.

@trishgreenhalgh Thanks 4 this. Having lived through SARS in Toronto I was livid at the way COVID-19 was being handled. They threw the precautionary principle out the window, instead waiting for "evidence" to dictate policy instead of proceeding w/caution until evidence indicated policy was safe.

@TorontoStar The minimum wage in Nicaragua in this sector is 1.11 USD (1.42 Cdn) based on a 208 hour work month. While bad for Canadian workers, it's a better wage relatively speaking for Nicaraguans @ >3x their minimum wage while they pay Ontarians less than 25% more than minimum wage.
