@andrewbensonf1
It turns out they did.
A. Yesterday it was allowed and slow cars needed to leave space as per rules announced as short ago as Brasil
B. A change in regs is not retro-active
C. He did not ‘barge’ but carefully overtook at 15-20 kph…

Diep respect voor de beheerste wijze waarop de politie gehandeld heeft. Maar XR gaat vast door tot het een keer echt escaleert.
@Planet_F1
Pat Symonds said that too when Crofty started bashing Verstappen as 'not great'. Max won 10 races against the most dominant Mercs ever: '16-'20.
Superb in Germany, Silverstone, Mexico...
Ask these people if LH is now not 'great' since he was winless in '22 even in a winning car.

@F1Sauce
To quote the GOAT:
“If you no longer go for a gap that exists…you’re no longer a racing driver”.
Max went for every gap. Fought for every inch. Gave nothing away cheaply. Came out victorious.
He’s a modern-day Senna (on track): relentless and committed.
@RBR_Daily
Would love to hear what would convince you,

2015: Age 17, Rookie & Overtake of the Year, 2x 4th in Toro Rosso (7th constructor), 49 pts vs Sainz 18 pts.
2016-2020: 10 wins, 42 podiums against the utterly dominant Mercs.
Isn’t that enough?!
@FCB_Skydog
- There was a TD in ‘22 (Canada-mayhem, postponed to Belgium)
- There was an updated flexi-floors guideline.
- There was a raised ride-height requirement between ‘22-‘23.
- There was a flexi-wing guideline in ‘23.
It’s just: none of them slowed down Red Bull by a millisecond.
@jameypricephoto
Max has stated he is always trying to be super-balanced…not get too carried away when he’s won, not be too dejected when he has not.
But Alonso on P2 at the Dutch GP was like him winning the race. Good celebration!!!
Domination…
Djeez…Max has had a slightly better car for only a small part of ‘22. We had massively entertaining races and still the complaining of domination has taken hold. Where were these F1 media between 2014-2020…
@F1GuyDan
Also: look at age and years of single-seater experience…
Sainz was 21 and started single seaters in 2010 (formula BMW).
Max was 17 and started 2014 in F3.
Verstappen was way ahead of the curve…
@wbuxtonofficial
More pressure on Lando’s shoulders…
Mostly just very curious how he deals with that.
Oscar and Lando scored an equal amount of points over the last 5 races. If Lando isn’t clearly ahead and needs help several times in the remaining 8 races, what does that say?!
@Express_F1
Wow...second hand story from the least credible source ever, Mister William Storey, who promotes a supposedly competing energy drinks brand to Red Bull, blown up to look like this is some sort of general felt sentiment among all engineers...
Feel good about that, do you?

As somebody watching this Hunter Biden thing from abroad, why is it that this is even a thing to bring up for republicans when Trump has given his unqualified family positions in his administration and has redirected money from the US and foreign governments to his organisation?
@brrrake
I really don't get why F1 itself is happy being a side-show in Las Vegas (and Miami), which happens when you build mediocre temporary tracks and use tons of celebs, set crazy prices and rely on scenery, not motorsports, to generate interest.
It's a sell-out, but not a good one!
@LappedCars
Leave it to an American to understand 0.0 about the historical value of that GP and the simple fact that (apart from a crash or failed pitstop) the race to a grid position is on saturdays, is also OK. Vegas, with a 2km straight, will not make for more exciting quali’s or racing.
So this is someone who names his account ‘data analysis’ and handsomely forgets about Zhou’s upside down slide and somersault into the fence at Silverstone, Grosjean’s fireball and Max’s very heavy crash at Silverstone. Or Mick in Jeddah.
‘One of the scariest’…not even top 3!
@wbuxtonofficial
Start with the British press, Will.
Don’t spread innuendo and call TP’s out who claim to have insights they can’t or shouldn’t.
Red Bull are publicly convicted before a shred of information is out & verified.
@F1
If you’re taking your own mission
#DriveItOut
serious, you don’t praise the crowd you had to mute for the podium ceremony and interviews, the people chanting horrible things about a drivers mother, the fans who clearly on some occasions intimidated those supporting other teams
@brrrake
I don’t see the interest really being ‘extremely low’…but with 24 races it is logical that viewing figures start to spread out thinner, rather than accumulate.
You see people skip the support classes and the FP’s first. Then qualifying. Then the race as a whole.

The rules have never been more geared towards a meritocracy than they are now. You can’t - with impunity - outspend, out-develop or out-test the competition.
If they penalize out-performing the rest even within all constraints, it’s over!

These ratings are a joke!
One guy destroys the field in the wet qualifying, putting 0.6 on the next best driver and over a second on others, drives back from 11th to 4th in the dry: 7.4
But the guy starting in third, who finishes second and inherits first gets a 9.2 ...
"Risk-free"... "handed"...
Call yourselves journalists, do you?!
He pitted aggressively before anybody else...twice!
His change to a hard tyre had the whole media centre frowning but turned out the perfect choice. He then full-out attacked to close the gap to the front runners.
@JennieGow
@yasisland
Only for the British.
The rest saw some good last-lap racing on a green track and a deserved WDC after he’d been crashed out of the Silverstone and Hungary GP.
@MattyWTF1
It was dangerous, but the danger was created by both. Max' cold rears making him deviate very unexpectedly, but also Lando's speed there.
Look at Lando's onboard and see if Verstappen could realistically have expected him to go full speed there and whether he had time to react.
@F1
@LewisHamilton
@FerrariTrento
Dark day for the sport when such recklessness that causes serious injury to a fellow competitor goes not only almost unpunished, but revered and idolized. He shouldn’t get any of that racist crap that a true F1 fan would never dare utter. But call this ‘time to celebrate’?! NO!
@SkySportsF1
Ouch: The wheels have come off completely at Merc.
You've got a TP declaring the concept dead-on-arrival, a multiple WDC saying the development team don't listen to him and his junior teammate declaring the season lost after race 1, while the client team now beats the works team
@Vetteleclerc
Race 2 is just behind us.
No time to let the development curve of others even kick in.
No time to let RBR windtunnel and CFD limitations have an effect.
Two changes (mid ‘22 and pre-season) already undertaken to suit one competitor mainly…who still got the aero wrong.
Ughhh
@AlexVangeen
Illegally obtaining proprietary data that belongs to your competitor is theft and cheating.
Getting cost allocations wrong in the first year of a complex set of financial regs while collaborating in good faith with the governing body is not cheating.
@SkySportsF1
Lando: “They (Red Bull) were quicker than us last week, when you look at things”
Well, you’d have to look at other things than the actual data to conclude that…
@virtualstatman
This tweet did not age well…
50m later and we’re staring at an empty track because it’s 99% showbizz and they forgot to make sure the track was completely safe, taking out 2 cars in 10 minutes and ending the ‘opening act’ like it’s a clown-show.
@MattyWTF1
Me too…but he’s run away from a fight at Red Bull, underperformed at Renault and now McLaren. Top bloke to have around, highly marketable…but his racecraft is failing him more often than not.
@F1MikaHakkinen
'Max has to thank him for the win' ... no way.
Max clearly outpaced Checo yesterday...at a rate of 1s per lap when it mattered.
Don't get me wrong: Checo is a perfect teammate and closer to Max than last year, but this whole narrative that's being built up is utter BS.
@wbuxtonofficial
A penalty post-race, post-podium even, for something that happened 30 laps before the end, is straight up ridiculous and takes from the team all ability to react. They need to do better. And reinstate Fernando’s podium too…
Both things are just about as likely to happen…
@SkySportsF1
Perez wins have come only when Max is not in contention due to:
- Being crashed out by Leclerc in Sakhir
- Tyre failure in Baku
- Crash impeded his Monaco quali
- Underfueled in Singapore quali
- Driveshaft failure in Jeddah quali
Never ever has he been beaten on merit by Checo.
@as1d053
Just some banter.
But if you care to know:
A] It’s always best to look at what was in your control. Not externalize blame.
B] you don’t have to look beyond race 1 of ‘21 to see where Verstappen was done wrong by a dubious decision by the race director, costing him a win.
Since the start of 2019, Verstappen has marked 75 podiums in 103 races. That’s close to 75% podiums. That includes the 2 very dominant Merc seasons and a tight championship battle.
In the past 3 seasons he’s had 43 wins in 65 races. 66% … never been done.

@JunaidSamodien_
If that’s not a clean pass into that corner…nothing ever will be.
In Saudi Arabia, Max had to give up two positions at the restart for less than that in terms of ‘leaving the track and gaining an advantage’.
@TwommoF1
@EngineMode11
I was sitting right there on row 32.
He was so happy he had taken the flare from a guy and gotten it out of the stands. All were stupified by his action. Colleagues didn’t know how to act.
The flare rolled down Tarzan corner and extinguished against the pit-exit wall.
For me, Max' radio message of the weekend was not the "I hear a phone, is that Helmut's?". Not even the "What's the fastest lap?" just after the BW-flag, but the message in FP3 when GP told him that others are pushing:
"Mate, I don't give a F#%@. It just makes no sense!"
@ESPNF1
Plenty to talk about besides that last lap.
Keep the conversation going by talking about what constitutes ‘Leaving the track and gaining an advantage’ and what doesn’t.
Quite obviously, even the stewards need to have a good about that.
So on 'Max helping Checo'
Let's be brutally blunt...
If it's up to Max to even secure 2nd for Perez after having secured his own WDC and singlehandedly securing the Constructor's Championship, what the hell do Red Bull even have a second driver for.
#BrazilGP
#SaoPauloGP

@F1
That certainly looks like Max completed the overtake 100% on track, not off it.
The slight run-off on exit coming after the overtake was completed, due to an imbalance in the rear.
So why did the former Race Director require a swap-back directly? Was it Mercedes in his ear?
@GvanderGarde
@dburgersdijk
Hope they judge it as it was: a racing incident between two guys who are hypercompetitive and don’t give presents, especially not to each other.
@wearetherace
@XPBImages
This quote demonstrates a lack of class.
Everybody was cheering Alonso on. And Leclerc for that matter. But it was the better driver (he has a name, you may try and remember it) who pulled off something magical in that final sector.
@elliejaneF1
You can tell yourself everything you want. But there is no team principle who would fancy having to manage these two guys in the same team. It would tear up the garage and lead to more damage, less points and likely lost championships.
@M_Harri10
👋👋👋
Controversy has always been an integral part of F1. Worse things have happened than the best racer winning the championship. I mean: Merc outspent everybody for 8 years after being pre-informed about the turbo-hybrid era engine rules. No beef with that?! Don’t whine now.
@SkySportsF1
So those 2 head stewards are British, aren’t they? And can they, like most British media, ignore that the most aggressive act this year was Lewis taking out Max for a 0 points result + engine penalty, whereas every time Max’ behavior was up for judgement he won no points at all?
@wbuxtonofficial
He said he’d told his team why he wouldn’t. Aren’t you curious as to A] his reasons and B] why RBR. Asked him anyway?!
He’s been consistent about not gifting any positions. He just doesn’t want to be a Bottas or Barrichello. A controllable asset, rather than a pure racer.
@FanaticsFerrari
@redbullracing
There’s so much respect for the Scuderia. Between the brands and the people. It will be a great battle, far less toxic than last year’s championship. Ferrari and Red Bull know what it’s like to have lost their winning ways, to fight back. They are gracious in victory and defeat.
@SilverArrowsNet
Stop whining. The SC was lucky. A Race Director directing them to race should not be a surprise. The way in which it happened was unusual. But this season deserved to be decided on track...with clean racing. Otherwise, Silverstone & Hungary would have decided it. Was that fair?
@wbuxtonofficial
Fair play!
Context:
RBR DNF-d 3 times already
Top spot in drivers and constructors was for the taking.
Everything was overheating on track already.
Max was compromised by faulty DRS.
They were on different strategies and Max closed at 1.5s per lap.
No-brainer, really.
@andrewbensonf1
The matter is between the employer and two of their employees. It has been independently reviewed and dismissed.
There is a flagrant attempt to try this matter in the court of public opinion, rather than use appropriate channels on offer.
Trial-by-media is a very bad idea.
@ESPNF1
George did not get Toto’s e-mail 😂😂
He basically says that porpoising wasn’t an issue at all, just the bouncing due to ride height, which was their choice to gain performance …
@Kasteelvrouwe1
Wat een gezwets.
@Motorsport
It mostly shows many pundits and journalists either havent moved on and matured or are looking to refuel a cheap and nasty narrative to create clicks and views.
Grow up people…it’s racing!
Incidents happen.
They had a couple of attempts and none were clean from both sides.
@MattyWTF1
It’s a basic principle for Verstappen:
I don’t step on the break and gift a position to a slower driver.
He didn’t do it for Sainz in Singapore 2015. He didn’t do it yesterday, he’s not doing it today.
Likable?! No…
Consistent?! Yes!
@Wings2806
@andrewbensonf1
Who could believe a race would be decided by actually racing for it?
Crying over backmarkers BEHIND the 2 title contenders being left in place does nothing for that key battle up front. No, LH fans think 29 track limit violations in race 1 are normal, but racing for a win? No!
@wbuxtonofficial
Checo was slightly off the pace, Will.
Not brilliant. And he doesn’t need a Multi21 moment. He needs to keep this up. He’s close to Max…much closer than many, including myself, would have expected.
@MattyWTF1
Except it
A] is signaled as a minor breach
B] doesn’t seem to be on their car, but on salaries
C] can be down to good-faith interpretation differences in brand new regs (e.g. what is valued as a salary component)
D] will not have influenced driver performance even indirectly.
@SkySportsF1
He had the opportunity to race with the lead at the restart and made a rookie mistake of going for it early, towing Max across the straight.
So maybe he should focus on beating Russell first. After all, he’s really only leading the ‘more drivers’ category at the moment.
@ESPNF1
@F1
Yeah…
That ‘Max is so aggressive’ narrative ignores that
- the biggest clash: Silverstone
- to blame: Lewis
- WDC impact: 0 points Max + engine penalty
- Refereeing; Hamilton 10s, same as Max for slowing down and trying to let Lewis by for the lead
#F1

How could anybody do what Lewis did to his teammate, there. Drive deliberately slowly to get him into trouble. After all Rosberg had done for him - at Monaco, for instance 😂
@Willseh14
Totally wrong: he accepted P7 with great ease last week. He feels like, the material permitting, he should win. But his eyes are not on the win, they’re on the WDC…
@swiftsambi
A] know your history. Fuelflowgate, crashgate and copyshop-gate to name a few…
B] not scandals: so far it’s gossip. Like the flexifloors, which Red Bull didn’t have.
C] the wind is always blowing from one direction. A team with no winners this year and plenty of whiners.
@Formula1Wimbo
@MercedesNewsUK
Two guys go off track at different occasions and the third just benefits from that and gets re-overtaken right after that. Overtake of the year …

@virtualstatman
It’s a harsh burn (and reality) … 😱
Don’t you think it’s just as nice a quirk that it now has been 44 winless races for Hamilton while Max has racked up 33 wins in 2 seasons?
Where does statistics end and numerology begin?! 🙈🙈🙈

@wtf1official
It’s not so much that they are named after Max: his ticket&travel organization (Verstappen Travel) buys the stands and exclusively sells the tickets for them.
He’s just making loads of money off his own brand and fan base, instead of letting others run away with it. Smart.
@andrewbensonf1
The car control Max has is insane. Much like Senna, who could be on the absolute edge of out of control and still be lightning fast. And if you pay a good amount of money to get that driver in your team, you build the car around them. To the extreme. Mediocrity is not F1’s focus.
@FastestPitStop
He’s not in go-karts anymore…
It was a good move, that was on, right until he understeered into Max. And that deserved at least to be looked at…
@SabScharwachter
Je hebt een verachtelijke manier gekozen door dappere mensen die voor een geheel andere zaak de ultieme prijs betaalden te kapen voor je eigen agenda.
Dat heeft niks met rechts of links te maken. Meer met goed en fout.
@DonnyVerstappen
A race where Bottas inadvertently did the best he could do for the championship, but Mercedes botched the strategy by letting Hamilton drive onto the grid all by his lonesome and Lewis was unable to pass Alonso for ages. They just did not deserve the WDC title that year.
@verstappenews
You have to feel for George.
Coming into that team he must have felt the key thing to do to become champion was beat a legendary 7-time WDC teammate. He does that straight out of the box only to get an occasional podium and a single win in return. Ouch…
It’s DR3’s path he’s on.
Why would you go to a sporting event like this and not support your preferred driver, but go there to hate on another?!
