On May 24th I graduated from Cornell University with a double major in Asian Studies and Feminist, Gender, & Sexuality Studies and a double minor in Africana Studies and Inequality Studies. Summa. Cum. Laude. I’m not one to brag...but I did that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We HAVE to stop thinking of the Jewish community and the Black community as discrete entities. Black Jews exist, and always have. Furthermore, antisemitism and anti-Blackness are intertwined methods of discrimination. Our freedom struggles are more enmeshed than we realize.
You know what Kanye? Yeah, Black people can be Jewish. I'm living proof of that. But your Blackness doesn't cancel out your antisemitism. And the ideology you purport in this tweet actually HARMS the very Black Jews you're referencing. This is grossly offensive and nonsensical.

You can have privilege as a marginalized person at a top tier institution and still be gunned down in the street for being Black. We don’t have “Cornell don’t shoot” tattooed on our foreheads. We can hold space for both, and we need to.
Idk what man needs to hear this, but STOP TALKING OVER WOMEN AND INTERRUPTING THEM ALL THE TIME. Y’all don’t even realize it, but you take up waaaaay too much space in conversations. Decenter yourselves!! I have worthwhile things to say too.
Should I expose a former roommate who went to Westchester in the middle of a pandemic and then returned to our shared apt in Ithaca, and then when I didn’t speak to her bc I was pissed she went on a racist tirade against me saying I was attacking her and being aggressive? 🤔
I'm so tired of seeing Black Jews having our Jewishness constantly be interrogated and invalidated. Yes, we belong to this synagogue. Yes, we're observing x,y,z in our homes. So stop asking questions you wouldn't ask an Ashkenazi Jew racialized as white in the exact same spaces.
I’m seeing a lot of Ashkenazi Jews saying that Jews are the only people condemning Kanye’s antisemitic remarks. Let’s be clear: there are plenty of folks in the Black community that have BEEN denouncing this fool for years (a thread🧵):
Horrific and and undeniably evil. This antisemitic graffiti was found in Bethesda today.
Jewish folks are scared, and understandably so. All I can say is I'm sending love to my community and wishing for our collective well-being and safety. L'Chaim 💙
It always strikes me as odd when people say someone acts or looks Jewish. Sephardic jews, Ashkenazi jews, Ethiopian jews, Mizrahi Jews, Indian jews, folks who convert, etc. all arrive at their Jewish identity differently. Why put us in a box?
You want more complete and intersectional perspectives? Uplift the voices of Jews of Color. We have a lot to say, and we have for some time now. Sincerely, a Black Jew.
Me as an 8 yr old watching Pocahontas: Omg this is great love saved the day! Woo!
Me as a 21 yr old watching Pocahontas: Fuck John Smith and the horse he rode in on! Undeserving colonizing ignorant ass...
Yo but real talk, we need to vote in November. Biden is not it, but 45 is REALLY not it. No leader is going to be our savior, certainly not Biden, but I cannot deal with 4 more years of trump amerikkka. Please take this energy and dedication all the way to the polls.
Ashkenormativity describes the centering of Ashkenazi Jews racialized as white within Jewish discourses. In other words, ashkenormativity means that Jews of Color get pushed to the margins of how we imagine Jewishness in the U.S.
Kamala Harris is capable and intelligent, but not all skin folk are kin folk...I have serious reservations. You’ll never catch me supporting someone just because they’re poc. This is the downfall of identity politics in full swing folks. Do your due diligence.
there are ppl in this world who are professionally pretty. like they wake up everyday and post a flick on insta and do a lil tik tok dance and that’s how they pay their bills. that will never not blow my mind.
a hot take that shouldn't be a hot take: all PhD students should be paid a MINIMUM of $40K per year. most of us are living on the brink of poverty while trying to do vitally important thought work and that just don't sit right with me.

She literally posted this on her insta story an hour ago. Like...is she fr? Did she really just share something that says, “racism against whites?” 😅
I started to stress about the winter, and then I remembered I’m in Houston so for the first time in 4 years I won’t be freezing my butt off!! I’m not even religious, but can I get an amen !!
Instead of saying white Jews I say Jews racialized as white b/c of the complex relationship the Jewish people have w/ race. Jews have been assimilated into whiteness in the U.S. AND Hitler still deemed Jews as non-white, or not Aryan enough, as a justification for the Holocaust.
I feel like I'm completely invisible to white men. I can't tell you how many times I get bumped into, cut in line, or just blatantly disrespected on a daily basis. The microaggressions are real y'all. Did they not get the memo that it's check your privilege 2018? lol...
yesterday i was walking home and this dude rolled down his window to catcall at me. i was wearing a mask and baggy clothes. like...you can’t even see me why are you catcalling?? honestly men scare me something. i’m always looking over my shoulder when i’m out alone.
@rafaelshimunov
Raf, I really appreciate you re-posting this. When we’re talking about Black and Jewish relationality it’s CRUCIAL to not only include, but also CENTER the voices of Black Jews. Too often, however, we’re forgotten and left on the margins of dialogue. This is blatant erasure.
heya friends! on october 27th i turned 22 (woo!) and i made a chatty get ready with me / birthday present unboxing video. if you need something fun to do this halloween eve check it out! 🎃💕

Black Hebrew Israelites are purporting and ideology that is far removed from historical truth. Plain and simple: this is historical revisionism, and scholars have noted as much for some time now.
My new video is up!! I get real about what I wish I knew before college, trifling dating experiences, and how I boosted my GPA (and how you can too)! Check it out 🥰✨
I had the amazing opportunity to publish an article with

I’m deeply flattered to be referred to as an icon hahah. I’m just out here serving community and spreading knowledge !! Much love to the Jewish Women’s Archive for amplifying Black Jewish voices ❤️✨

Your work with mental health is so inspiring! B.O.S.S. is an org on Cornell’s campus that serves womxn of color. Our Mental Health Summit is this coming November 10th and we would LOVE it if you could be our keynote speaker!!

this kanye situation has illuminated some deep-seated tensions between the black community and jewish community. as a black jew, this breaks my heart. we have work to do.
In the next 17 days I have 2 group projects, a take home exam, a capstone paper, a THESIS to write and a defense, a demo lab, and weekly readings. Pray for me y’all, the senioritis is hitting different rn
Unpopular opinion: online school was lowkey better 🤭 cause this commute everyday ain’t cute. And I can’t turn my camera off when I need to grab a snack from the kitchen anymore!
just because someone went to an ivy league doesn’t mean they’re qualified. just because someone didn’t go to college doesn’t mean they’re not qualified. look at the person in front of you, not their desirability on paper.
"Roughly translated from Yiddish - a language traditionally spoken by Ashkenazi Jews - bubuleh means sweetheart. It’s a term which many older Jews say to their children and grandchildren as a term of endearment. It's a word full of warmth..."
I’m tired of watching young Black men like Jordan Neely be denied the right to grow old. He should be here. And the only reason he’s not is because systems that could have held and nurtured him utterly failed. Is this really the kind of society we want for ourselves?
