People are congratulating me on PHP 8. That is completely misdirected. @nikita_ppv and @dstogov have been the driving forces behind PHP for years now. Countless others pitch in regularly as well. PHP 8 is significantly better because it contains a lot less of my code.

Built myself a new dev box. This 3950X is incredible! 30s PHP compiles with all major exts and 60s Linux kernel compiles. Running Debian Bullseye for the recent kernel and amdgpu 5700xt support. Overclocks easily to 4.3GHz all-core, but dialed it back to 4.1GHz @1 .318V

To test DigitalOcean's new offerings, I compared similar standard and optimized droplets. The results surprised me. The opt droplet compiled PHP in under 2 min. Std took over 34 min! If I am finally going to move my colo'ed dev box to a VPS, those std droplets are too damn slow

The iMac that died last week which I was debugging on Dec.8 actually stopped booting on Dec.6. The 3-year AppleCare expired on Dec.4. Amazing precision for a hard drive failure! But in the end the drive cut it too close. Apple was nice enough to replace anyway. Thanks Apple
