Spent the last two years working with Acronym
@erlsn
and Republic of Gamers
@ASUS_ROG
on the design of and for the ROG Flow Z13 - ACRNM RMT02
Been a wild two years theres so many facets to this project I need to figure out how to share but for now here’s the reveal
Studios are all pretty much hiring Senior Designers only. After what was a few years of freelancers reaching out or discussing how there's no work for them anymore, now students and juniors are struggling to find work (1/9)
rip Douglas Trumbull. These opening shots in Blade Runner where done completely in camera, no post. The film was exposed numerous times each time with new light and flames to build up shot. Each shot took 16-20 exposures. An absolute master.
i always feel like what i make is illegitimate. i see design and work and think it looks great, someone designed that, its a real thing. while everything i make is like someone just fucking around and it's not like real like everything else.
american design you’re expected to reinvent yourself with every project. european design you make a poster then just make variations of it for your whole career
as soon as it was proven you could create value and worth through social media it became expected of young creatives to do so as a proof of their vitality in the market before privatized business took them on to reduce risk
So we end up on the catch-all of a "senior designer" someone expected to lead projects and take on conceptual rounds like a director, but also expected to produce the final outputs and deliverables and other subsequent jobs a mid- or junior would usually fill (5/9)
some designers just get so hyped making things for no reason, like we’ll make this zine, then a mix to go with it, and socks, and a scarf, and tees, and a pencil holder, and candles
Cannot call yourself a type designer/foundry until you have drawn exactly;
- A san-serif "Helvetica alternative"
- A trendy display face you insist can work for text (ie. reverse-contrast)
- One weight of an attempt at a traditional serif which you will never draw italics for

, unfortunately there are too many fonts in use, I’m afraid this is bad design. Please consult your Bringhurst readings and we’ll let you do the assignment again.
