Navarro was the ultimate underdog: an undersized, unathletic, short-armed guard who just always found ways to beat you. I'll never forget his 2011 Eurobasket, and the constant feeling of inevitability he transmitted. One of the all-time greats in European basketball.

In Varese, Italy for the yearly U15 Friendship Tournament. First off is Greece vs Spain. For Greece, the main guy to monitor is Giorgios Giantsidis (2009 6'4 PG). An athletic guard with positional size, Giantsidis comes hailed as perhaps the better 2009 prospect in Greece.

The best part about youth basketball is watching the kids grow up and progress to the next stage, whatever that is. Only a year and a half ago, I was watching Muurinen play in semi-empty gyms in Madrid and now he's in an Olympic Qualifier scoring on an NBA big. That's awesome!

Lithuania takes this one, beating Spain 85-78 behind a completely dominant game by 6'4 Illinois commit Kasparas Jakucionis. The Lithuanian guard looked completely in control, driving, shooting, forcing fouls and assisting to the tune of 19 points (5/11 FG, 6/7 FT) and 6 boards.

Llull instead of Campazzo completely changes this team. They just get so much shooting. 5s featuring Llull, Carroll, Rudy and Thompkins (or Doncic, or Causeur, or Taylor) just have too many shooters. Gives Ayón space to think, and RM is tough to guard like that.

Information from Badalona indicating that 2006 shartshooting 6'7 F Iker Garmendia and 2007 top level 6'8 F Karim López are off to the USA as well, taking the college route. Garmendia and Karim were two of the better wing prospects in Spanish basketball.

Stacked Spain U20 roster. Villar-Conrad-De Larrea-Jordi Rodríguez is one of the most talented backcourts I can remember in youth hoops and Garuba and Nogués are two of the better defenders in their respective age groups. And Mara and Almansa is a tried-and-tested big man combo.

Lithuania takes this first win, beating France 82-74. SG Erikas Sirgedas had an excellent game, finishing with 17 points on 3/3 fron 2 and 3/4 from deep, and punctuating it with the game-sealing dunk. Dovydas Buika added 16 and Arturas Butajevas another 12.

For Spain, plenty of good wing prospects here, headlined by Roger Villarejo (2009 6'7 F, Valencia Basket) and Rafa Corta (2009 6'7 F Real Madrid) headline the group, although the guy to watch is Jan Cerdan (6'6 F, FC Barcelona), one of the best 2010 European prospects.

Garuba dominating as usual, yes, but the video shows the importance of him competing at this level: it allows him to try new stuff. Face-up drives, nice footwork in the post, passes to cutters and off of double teams… Much more variety to his game in this setting than before.
