Just in case, een overzicht. (1/n)

Today were the first local #elections in Belgium since compulsory voting was abolished for local elections in Flanders (it still is compulsory in other regions). The impact was instantaneous and large, with turnout dropping from +90% to ca. 65% according to preliminary estimates.

So one advantage of virtual #APSA2020 is I can read conference papers with more legroom than I would have on a plane! #silverlining

Our paper on benchmarking in economic voting is now out at @BJPolS ! Couldn't summarize it better than @VincentAB , so here's his thread. Also, couldn't come up with better GIFs to illustrate our argument :)

Super happy that this piece with @spasspolitik and Ian McAllister ( @politicsANU ) is now out in @EJPGjournal ! Using @csestweets data, we show female leaders (experienced only) are more liked than male leaders but don't benefit from it electorally.

My paper on dealignment and party behaviour is now online @EJPRjournal ! I find that dealignment (volatility) conditions responsiveness: parties are responsive to the mean voter in high volatile contexts.

There haven’t been in-person conferences for a year, and I miss those a lot, but zoom seminars can be really great too! Thanks to @ProfJaneGreen and Pepper Culpepper for organizing this one, and to the audience @NuffieldCollege for a great discussion! 🙏

Glad to see this paper is now out! Using @csestweets data, we find that citizens' levels of satisfaction with #democracy does not appear to be affected much by the party choice set (in terms of the number of parties, their polarisation, or congruence).

Happy that this paper with my great co-author @kamil_marc is now out @ElectoralStdies ! In the paper, we try to unpack the association between religiosity and voting for radical right wing parties. Is there a positive association? Turns out it depends!

As pointed out by Inglehart, we live in the era of "religion's sudden decline". In the latest article by @r_dassonneville & myself we discuss its implications for analyzing relationship of religion & politics, methodological challenges & misconceptions.
