Terraforms 101
- a single terraform is called a parcel

each parcel has an x,y,z position in a 3d structure “the hypercastle” the artists made no visual for; the community has made many
the milady scene very recently completed a 10,000 long 'tweetchain' with no central coordination over the course of 18+ months and it's honestly one of the more interesting things this space has produced (dont @ me)
ppl are asking "what is the next milady/remilia" and what they fail to grok is that genuine countercultures don't simply arrive at the speed of culture markets, but rather are incubated as a reaction to multi-year/decade-spanning undercurrents
anon, there is no next milady
seeing more folks excited about animated gen art
the point isnt "oo it moves"
the point is that there's a category of artists who use code to harness the computers innate potential for interactivity, networking, memory & dynamism to convey messages that one otherwise could not
simultaneously embrace and hate tradition, reject and accept modernity, all while harnessing the libidinal forces of capital and technology to accelerate yourself into an unprecedented future condition
Introducing ArtTab Interactions, new to
@arttabxyz
.
For interactive artworks, the bottom right corner now surfaces a brief list of interactions and associated triggers.
Since the first was a hit, video highlighting interactive pieces currently curated in ArtTab (sound on)!
i've made a lot of software in my life but getting mentioned in an art publication hits different. very much appreciate this unexpected note!
also why haven't you installed
@arttabxyz
yet??
As of yesterday
@arttabxyz
crossed 200 daily active users. It's not that many compared to some apps but it's cool to know that so many people out there are likely having a much deeper experience with a category of digital art that I feel is (relatively) under-appreciated.
good time as ever to remind my fellow network treasure hunters that it's worth your time and attention to immerse yourself in the scene around this artwork

if you're running an ord wallet already and have inscribed a bunch of sats, you may find this little app i made helpful:
feel free to dm any feedback or feature requests
the internet and financialization makes hype waves move so quickly that alpha is increasingly just staying interested in something longer than a few days, weeks or months
A few updates to , a fast & visual way to browse your ord wallet holdings:
1) Sorts by and shows inscription numbers
2) Pagination (instead of prev/next buttons lol...)
More polish coming this week!
ordinals vs eth nfts reminds me of apple vs microsoft
ordinals: just works, secure, simple by default
eth nfts: more powerful, customizable, but can hang yourself w complexity
might be hard to see this today but the core design of each suggest as much
Collectors and artists in this space have yet to truly reckon with the massive elephant in the room: the ease with which new supply can be generated (especially with generative - algorithmic or AI processes) vastly outpaces any previous art scene or market. not priced in (ZERO).
if someone says "this is the X of btc" and X is some eth project id stay as far away from it as possible!
why? because its a narrative to get people to ape something quickly whereas genuine culture is fostered by passionate folks operating in relative obscurity over time
1337 skulls is a fun pixel art project by a few friends
imo it's the first collection to elegantly weave together art and cultural references from 30+ crypto-native CC0 artists in a single package
mints are free & no royalties. keep your 👀 on
@1337skulls
today.
while some see a 'cult of elitist collectors' i see a group of genuinely passionate, kind, and welcoming tinkerers and believers who dare to romantically believe in the possibility of a movement that builds on, but extends beyond just digital collectibles and generative art
you need to be sticking with your gut besides all evidence to the contrary, you need to be holding your bags through the darkest of markets, you need to be going into debt to keep your high conviction plays alive, you need to be all in with no back up plan
im rt'ing this with ppl talking about things like pups, swag, etc as re-establishing some kind of center for a new 'avant' schelling point
the ARE fun/cute/cool but it is not a next milady, buyer beware!

Help us document the history of generative art on
#Bitcoin
:
We are compiling both early and prominent collections in one place so gen-art consumers can easily find the facts and compare.
Listed collections must have either:
1) First ordinal in
a lot of interesting experiments happening rn...
- digi + f2o gaming wave
- art gobblers / QQL: generative art that involves more community collab
- wheyfus/sudoswap/sudorug crazy NFT-fi schemes
- pushing bounds of on-chain art (roses, threes.js+p5.js onchain, ticklebeach)
if you're interested in collecting art (non-speculatively) on ordinals from a genuinely good artist and person, i can think of no better project than
@DASNW
(disheveled alien supermodels) by all around creative talent (music + pixel art + generative art)
@perrinexyz
it has thoughtfully avoided flipper culture and has attracted a passionate scene of devs, artists, and collectors who are passionate about crypto culture broadly and its potential as a site and medium for a serious art movement around computers

the studio aspirationally sees itself in the tradition of artists like larva labs (zero royalties, hold % of supply, scene building, ethereum itself as an art medium and alternative/exit from ossified bureaucracies)
to date, there's been no simple and accessible way of bringing non-static artwork meaningfully and ambiently into your daily life
arttab is a gesture in that direction, something i built for myself and friends, and something i expect to continue to improve.
i hope you enjoy it!
To me, and I think to many, it has come to be a kind of lighthouse for hope in crypto broadly, a refuge in the hysteria of 2021 and a rock in the bear market of the last 12 months
I’ve been on a bit of an ArtTab hiatus lately between IRL busyness and bull market distractions but Autoscope by

broke me out of it. Just added 10 lovely outputs from his new piece to the rotation.

i love when people believe in something, literally anything.
religion, tarot cards, astrology, obscure mythologies, fate, visions for the future, science even (though maxis can be tough here).. belief in anything is life affirming. fundamental act of defiance over nihilism.
there is no wallet connection, no crypto integration, etc... this is meant to purely be a way to discover and experience dynamic artworks.
i hope many people beyond those in the scene today can come to experience and enjoy these works, many irl friends already have and love it
the rate of decent-ish new generative art drops is vastly outpacing the current demand from collectors - this was always inevitable and is in some ways the natural state of things, but important to internalize if you're hoping for your collecting to retain value
keep a note of the most interesting thing you noticed at the end of each day. revisit what you wrote 30 days prior. if it's still interesting to you it's probably a good time to buy it because everyone else has probably forgotten
Leaving the 20th Century – the real ambition for art in this space.
Make no mistake: contemporary art remains stuck in the last century
All major categories – self-referential painting discourse, “critical” conceptual art, political/participatory art, performance, installation,
For a lot of 'longform generative algos' the best outputs are phenomenal and make you go "ooo wonderful" but then 50% are mediocre and another 20-40% verge on actively undesirable.
I'm not sure why this is an acceptable status quo tbh. Would much prefer curated outputs than this
this work is a lot more than just fancy gadgetry to keep an artwork's true nature secret from viewers
it's an inversion of the logic of 'generative art' wherein a hash is used to generate a random variation of predominantly visual collectibles

timeline consensus on 'financial nihilism' and 'memecoin supercycle' coinciding with a re-introduction of macro uncertainty means the contrarian trade of the coming weeks and months is unironically to 'stop trading and (genuinely) believe in something'

i've been in the trenches honing my craft
while you were building
i apprenticed with sub 3k follower anime avi anons
i'm using dingboard 6 hours a day
i'm at least six memetic cycles ahead of you
accelerate? only advance.
it does this while also delivering a 10k supply generative art piece with an algorithm that delivers a wide range of visually pleasing, outputs that are super fun as collectibles
an underrated explantion for the rotation to 'ai art' (botto, aligndraw, etc..) imo has less to do with its inherent quality and more to do with narrative and supply fatigue in *the previous thing* (algorithmic generative art, and appropriately imo)
StarryNight is back scooping unminted artblocks and I minted some

pfp tokens dominate trading volume 99% to 1%
why?
they're automatically shilled with every tweet
it's time we fix this by introducing art tweet signatures, starting now.

if your artwork isn't a multiplayer, networked and upgradeable program on a crypto-economically durable runtime.. how will it attempt to expand until it can read mail?
it's probably best to think about crypto art market participants as novices on a journey. many pieces they're not quite.. ready.. to grok. and the ones they are ready to grok are probably.. mmm.. quite basic and not so durable
has been a delight seeing rem hone this work over the last year and change!! in admiration of his dedication and ambition with proscenium, an artwork that goes beyond ‘simulation of paint’ and creates something truly digital, unique, and wonderful
An algorithm I started in 2008 has found its purpose.
I'm bouncing with excitement, and maybe a bit nervous, but overall so thrilled to finally properly introduce Proscenium!
I'll share some thoughts in this thread, starting with the essay just published on Mirror.

real digital art 'frames' have never been tried (unless you traveled to Berlin for this show)
but you CAN use
@arttabxyz
. will be doing an AGH take over of ArtTab next week once the algos are released!
there is no feeling i love more then everyone i know thinking that what i'm interested in is stupid or dumb
many people say that they want to be on the fringes or interested in new things early but in practice the genuine versions of this have to be painful/low status by design
iq is and has been increasingly besides the point, there are plenty of smart people around. what the world lacks is the conviction and courage to attempt meaningful things. even if its a larp or meme i err on supporting ambition over constant nihilism

terraforms is a computer artist searching for his canvas and in finding a most promising one, ultimately reconciling the canvas is "always has been": other people. and so it is a home 'land' for kindred spirits forged of sufficiently durable computation for emergent meaningmaking
the work plays with themes around permanence of computing mediums, reinterpretability of data, durability of 3d data formats, interoperability of programs, riffs off cryptoscene culture wrt “metaverses” and “digital land”
between generative ai, zk proving times declining, blockchain scaling, rise of web assembly, projector-enabled "embodied" computers...
computing is really starting to be exciting again
2010s exploit saas / software eat the world etc.. times are ending
imagine showcasing a 134 year old static painting to sell your 2023 digital frame tv. let the digital medium be what it is meant to be. unleash the cpus and gpus.
the hypercastle slowly decays over time, it’s lifetime is prolonged by 1 year everytime a collector “terraforms” a parcel they own. terraforming essentially adds a layer of art to the parcel that you can think of as graffiti. this means it has a theoretical lifespan of 10k years
i think actually intense narrative/cult formation is a response to this condition; all collectors know that supply is technically infinite and so the scarce resource is narrative liquidity
Collectors and artists in this space have yet to truly reckon with the massive elephant in the room: the ease with which new supply can be generated (especially with generative - algorithmic or AI processes) vastly outpaces any previous art scene or market. not priced in (ZERO).
an appropriate metaphor for ethereum is probably a city, you never want your city to go "mainstream"
what you want is to continue to attract new and interesting people at a steady rate who contribute interesting things to the city's unique economy and culture
