@buitengebieden_
Oh god no. It's kinesin transporting an unspecified vesicle along a microtubule. Happiness is not that simple and trivial, and requires a great many processes.
@RichardDawkins
It's not SF. That's your mistake, looking for a literal process to turn someone into a cockroach.
It's about loneliness & isolation & self-loathing.
It's also not a science book.
@JacobAWohl
Would you please give a specific address for this "no-go zone in Minneapolis"? I'd like to check it out myself, or have friends cruise through it (if they can rent an armored car).
@LeahLibresco
Yeah, the New York Times eats that dissembling shit up.
You cannot "deliver" an ectopic pregnancy. You got a necessary abortion, ending a pregnancy that could have killed you. A procedure you want to deny to others.
@C_C_Gill
You mean the people who are trained to have a wider appreciation of culture find him particularly repellent? True. But look deeper, and you'll find that scientists find him to be an ignorant idiot, beneath contempt.
I’m at Barbie. Old Q/Fox News couple in front of us were here to see Sound of Freedom—their disappointment gave me joy. They left looking so sad. Sorry you missed your propaganda, you creepy fucks.
OK,
@JordanBPeterson
, I'm calling you out. You are cis. You're a low-down, dirty, scum-sucking cis person, just like me. What are you going to do about it?
@neiltyson
@elonmusk
So his virtues are that he sold electric cars that other people invented and 'commercialized' a natural resource? You know the civilization he's 'inventing' looks pretty dystopian, right?
OK. Do Henry Ford next.
@adamdavidson
Madness. The most important part of the paper is the chain of evidence leading to the conclusions.
I think maybe you don't read a sci paper with the same goals an academic would.
@kellyblaus
@chick_in_kiev
They actually signed their names to those abominations? It's as if they were unaware of how bad those were, or they had no shame.
@sentientist
Oh great. The myth of the great genius solving all our problems hurtles on.
Science is a communal process, and should be egalitarian. Pumping more brain juice into a wealthy few will not produce more progress. Opening the doors to more diversity will.
@RichardDawkins
It's your upbringing. The Islamic muezzin is making a call to prayer -- it's a plea, not aggression. Ringing bells and the adhan are pretty much equivalent.
I don't much care for either, but if you can enjoy church bells, recognize that others can enjoy the muezzin.
@taslimanasreen
This is called eugenics, & no informed scientist accepts it anymore. ALL humans are genetically variable and we don’t discriminate against them on the basis of what alleles they carry.
@Glinner
@Botanygeek
@theAliceRoberts
So now you're reading my mind?
You are incorrect. I know that there is a range of sexual states, and that individuals can shift their position on the continuum.
@nathankw
1. Not a "sex denialist".
2. I don't know that there are exactly 2 spider sexes.
3. I think humans have a far wider range of sexual behaviors & morphologies than spiders.
4. People aren't spiders.
@neiltyson
I think we also respond to intent, and context, and violence. Dying of the flu is not comparable to being gunned down at the Walmart by a white nationalist.
In a state election in a far northern state, it's really odd to hear a candidate whining about beefing up our southern border. That's *Iowa*, Scott Jensen. You do know what state you're running in, right?
@JennyENicholson
Sheesh. There were some very chatty people behind me on my last flight -- I just put in my earbuds. It's not hard. Less work than transcribing hours of conversation.
@TheAtlantic
@jessesingal
What would I do? Support her, help her be herself, arrange for professional medical consultation, and help her engage socially with other transgender individuals.
I would not advise looking to The Atlantic for good information.
@katebomb
There are ribs all along the length, so neither. Variable (but small) number of cervical vertebrae, maybe a dozen caudal vertebrae, most of the rest are thoracic.
So they have long bodies.
@steinkobbe
@NoraReed
So the future is going to involve me doing shelving for the products of "influencers"? Good thing I don't let them influence me. They're all jerks.
@AshleyReturns
So…no sex after menopause? Various diseases, including cancer, can lead to sterility -- no sex for them, either. The only sex allowed is penis-in-vagina?
Wow. You don't get to dictate policy.
I got called out for wearing a mask today. "The pandemic is over!" they said.
"Great," I said. "Let me know when age-related vulnerabilities to respiratory diseases are over."
They didn't instantly bow down and recognize my wisdom. My grey hairs mean nothing.

"Standard English usage" seems to equal "usage by ignorant men" in your head. Never use the worst, least credible source for your definitions.
No. That's a mistake. University is about getting grounded in core information for a discipline. Expecting 18-22 yo people to be competent & authoritative is absurd. They're supposed to be LEARNING.
I've been here before. The kind of debate they want is not about evidence or competing ideas, it's about drowning the science in lies and rhetorical performance art. No thanks.
@darakass
@DrJenGunter
He lost me when he talked about a "baby" in a second trimester abortion, and blamed it on ignorant inner-city women.
That was really badly done.
