Your reminder about what those weird Roman calendar words meant (at least originally). Kalends = new moon, Nones = waxing quarter, Ides = Full. By that day famous day where everyone got stabby the names of the days in the month didn't correlate with the lunar calendar. 1/4

I like to show students in Roman history classes modern death masks to make the phenomenon seem more real and I wanted to include some women in my examples--TIL THERE IS A MARIE ANTOINETTE DEATH MASK and it was made by Madame Tussaud herself.

It can be impossible to trace or reconstruct the original contents of hoards illegally excavated once they are dispersed on the market, but that doesn't mean we can't see that those hoards existed. 1/
