Was thinking, if this happened in Ireland a) we’d have known who this guy was within an hour & b) the rest of his hometown would be like, ah that’s raccoon Davy, sure nobody pays any attention to anything he says.

Gerry Anderson’s son David was in touch with me after I inadvertently made Gerry go viral. He & the family loved reading all the messages & seeing Gerry reach a whole new audience. They are creating a website to host his work.

This voucher is almost 15 years old. I reckoned I’d lost it, but then it turned up in a box. It moved house with us & was mislaid again. Despite being older than 2 of my children,
@louis_copeland
accepted it with a smile. Proper shop, wonderful service.

Youngest (8) seems a tad unhappy at the lack of a bedtime story due to earlier misdeeds. This note was thrown at me. At least her spelling is improving.

Jesus, Mary and Joseph and the wee donkey: Liam Neeson stole the show with his

also gave him the best line. How many Catholic officers are in the RUC, Erin asked him. “Well, if you count the Jewish fella from Ballymena, 3.”

Public service announcement for all broadcasters over the next couple of weeks. There is no tie in Tyrone: repeat, there is no tie 👔 in Tyrone. If you pronounce it with a tie in there, you’re mispronouncing it. Here endeth the lesson.

Batter a fella, but if you’re a GAA star just give him a few quid & that’s fine.
Outrageous. This is the second time that Diarmuid Connolly has not received a conviction for an ‘unprovoked’ attack.
When I was at

30 years ago we had to learn how to print & develop B&W photos. I took this shot of a lovely old guy by the Royal Canal. Think it’s Ballybough. Just found it & was thinking it’s someone’s dad, grandad or uncle and they might like a copy. Do your thing

Wow. I shared this today as the clip had popped up as a FB memory & I thought maybe some people might find it as funny as I do. The animation is by
@flickerpix_ni
. Had I known this was gonna go viral I’d have tagged them. 📻 🐓(There really should be a Child of Prague emoji.)
I’m 52. A husband. A father. A radio listener. I work in the suburbs and I live in the suburbs. I am not on the way to the most important meeting of my life, but I am sick of that bloody awful Suzuki Vitara ad. Please make it stop. 🤢 🚘
Utterly meaningless. They spent €45 on whiskey, €48 on wine & desperados & €31 on 20 bottles of honey. That’s €124 of the total €208 original bill. Proves we pay too much for alcohol, which we all knew anyway, and also that Pooh bear is living in this house.
About 4 weeks ago I emailed the NDLS because my new driving licence had a mistake on it. Got this email today. This is comically bad customer service - ‘we didn’t reply to your email so we’re gonna delete your email’. Also, how can my query be resolved when it was ignored?
OTD 37 years ago in 1987,

released

. They came to Belfast record store Makin’ Tracks, where I was working at the time, for a midnight album signing. I got my copy signed before we opened the doors to the public. Bono is seen here in Makin’ Tracks.

Brandon Lewis - the man who famously said the British Government was going to “break international law in a very specific and limited way” - has just resigned, having reportedly told

that Govt requires "honesty, integrity and mutual respect". Who needs satire?
Sorry I’ve been unable to reply to people. Had to switch off alerts. Lovely to think so many people are getting such a laugh from the late great Gerry Anderson. The video had about 30K views when I posted it at lunchtime yesterday, so it’s really hypnotised people. Ahem.
I have a question. How many times had you heard Delilah by Tom Jones before you realised it was a jaunty tune about a fella murdering his girlfriend in a jealous rage?
The level of joy that you derive from your 12 year-old car passing the NCT first time is simultaneously totally pathetic and also rather endearing. 🎉 🚙
Some personal news.
After 15 great years, I’m finishing up in daa today. Like many during the pandemic, I had a long think about my working life, & it struck me that I was 15 years out of journalism in Feb & was 15 years at daa in Apr - 12 of which as CCO
I know nobody will see this, as I’m not a right wing crazy with a bullshit blue tick. But for what it’s worth, Fisk on Netflix is a thing of beauty.

It was 35 years ago this week that

came to Makin’ Tracks in Belfast to launch The Joshua Tree. We opened just after midnight so me & the other staff wore pajamas. I got my copy signed just before we opened the doors. H/T to

Hi
@DubCityCouncil
, can you please remove this sign at the Wooden Bridge in
#Clontarf
. It’s really ugly and is a visual blight in a beautiful location. It also serves absolutely no purpose, as the project in question finished several years ago.

Fair play to
@Hodges_Figgis
for accepting my ancient gift vouchers. Hugely impressive customer service. No expiry date meant no expiry even though the punt is long gone. Added a couple of euro & treated myself to something special.
The very fact that

elects 3 people to the Seanad is entirely undemocratic. To paraphrase George Orwell, all Irish graduates are equal, but some are more equal than others. I attended

Socrates enjoying the fine weather

. Note the sunglasses. As all Monty Python fans will know, Socrates himself is particularly missed, a lovely little thinker but a bugger when he’s pissed.
For those interested - and there seem to be a few - my salmon coloured jacket now has its own Twitter account and is available for communions, confirmations, weddings bar mitzvahs etc. Thanks. 🍣🧥

To be totally accurate Ireland, Britain and the Isle of Man. The Isle of Man is a British Crown Dependency and isn’t part of Britain or part of the UK.
Can I be Pope, asks daughter (9) apropos of nothing. No, sorry the Church says you have to be a man, I reply. That’s silly, she says, there’s nothing a boy can do that a girl can’t do. She’s gonna go far, although not in the Catholic Church obviously.

The Taoiseach is absolutely right and this needs to be said more often. Nobody criticises British politicians for being unionists. They are entitled to their view. No Irish politician should ever have to apologise for being a nationalist. The idea that they should is ludicrous.
Taoiseach: “Why is there a double standard applied to Irish politicians … when we say we’d like to see a United Ireland.”
“The PM describes himself as a proud unionist. The SoS often talks about how committed he is to the union . Not only to we accept that - we respect it.”
The judge in this case noted “that Connolly had no recorded convictions”. That’s because when Connolly attacked another fella in 2014 he was spared a conviction after he pleaded guilty to assault and paid his victim, who had a fractured eye socket, €5,000.

Barred from the chipper when he was 17 for starting a fight with Johnny Murphy’s guide dog. It was the talk of the town. Well for two days anyway.
It seems utterly bizarre for these huge amazing old army barracks in the heart of Dublin to be used merely to store what seems to be junk. That’s on the ground floor. Who knows what if anything is upstairs.

This is an astonishing message from a police force in a western democracy. The job of the police is to uphold the law and people have a legal right to protest. This is like something from an authoritarian state.
Our tolerance for any disruption, whether through protest or otherwise, will be low.
We will deal robustly with anyone intent on undermining this celebration.

Have to agree to differ. I would say it is entirely relevant to the outcome of both cases. Of course he should have received a conviction the first time.
Update on this. They called me this morning and were very apologetic and helpful in relation to the issue. But as I said to their representative it shouldn’t have required a tweet that got lots of traction for them to deal with this. What about all the other people waiting?
It’s really awful being in the EU, ruled by perfidious Brussels and being forced to drink - eh, checks notes - pints. Just don’t tell the Brexit types.
