My Dad, a school principal at the time, reluctantly attended the 1984 meeting at the Porirua Police College where Merv Wellington promoted his idea of reintroducing mandatory daily flag raising but he (Dad) reckons Luxon's cellphone ban is dumber. So that's quite an achievement.

Just saw a man in obvious mental distress lashing out violently at passers-by on a Hasting street. Random bloke junps out of car – I'm thinking "dude, stay out of it", expecting escalation. Instead, within less a min. he'd calmed the whole thing down . Kudos. It was masterful.
