entry but here goes.
My name is Peter Ndung’u and I’m a Kenyan travel & documentary photographer 📸
The goal of my body of work is to shed positive light on African nature, wildlife, culture & people.

4 years & 3 months later, I’m standing in awe of the Northern lights dancing in front of my eyes. It’s midnight, -10 degrees, fingers are numb, there’s snow everywhere, I’m teary, ears hurt, camera is clicking away but I wouldn’t trade this experience for anything else.
Woke up with this statement on my mind “Mnatushika na tunawatetea”… imagine a world where police would let you protest peacefully as they provide security instead of baseless arrests. We will continue to

even for them & their families. ✊🏾
If you’d have told me 9 years ago I would be talking photography in a panel moderated by National Geographic.. I would have thought you were crazy. Daily reminder to keep chasing them dreams.
We’re only just getting started 🚀
A set from one of the most epic places I’ve been to in Kenya- Dragon’s Teeth, a landscape unlike any I’ve seen before here. Cold but well worth the adventure when you see those rock formations.
My first Christmas as a husband and spending it with the little family I’m building here. Feels very different being away from the folks but an exciting time to begin building traditions of our own.
Life update: I recently married my best friend and have now officially graduated from the friend zone after 10 years. I have to say, “husband” has a nice ring to it.
Training young & upcoming photographers in Botswana with National Geographic was the highlight of my October. Something I would have only dreamt of when I started photography 10 years ago. I might need another month to process it.
We give thanks! 🙏🏾
Wrapped up the craziest trip I’ve done in Kenya so far with an awesome group of people, approx 2000km in the North. From broken windows, car breakdowns, heat, rain, dust, scorpions etc.. itching to see more of this country.

A year ago, together with a great team of talented folks and the help of some great mentors, I made my first film. It just bagged its first selection for Best African film at the Pridelands Wildlife Film Festival happening this week

I picked up a camera 10 years ago as an escape. It later became an addiction and is now my full time life. Wouldn’t have it any other way. Grateful for everyone & everything that’s graced my lenses.

Long live the art!
Walked into a supermarket yesterday looking for sugar, couldn’t find anything on the shelves. Asked one of the attendants and he replied, “Hii Kenya unafaa tu utafute Utamu wa Yesu”...
Went to an orchestra concert in Vienna last night and my goodness, for a free entry gig, the production, light show, sound and organisation was so so good!
Last night was wild! Watched a Jude Bellingham masterclass & 6 goal thriller from the VIP section of the Bernabéu with a stranger who offered me a free ticket to watch the game with his family because one of them wasn’t able to make it. Gonna need a while to recover from this! 🙏🏾
Amazing how this psychopath manages to display multiple personalities. Comparing the guy addressing the country now vs the one who called us treasonous criminals you would think they’re entirely different people!
Tried some slow shutter panning shots at the Safari rally. I’ll save you the 300 other shots that didn’t go as planned, so let’s work with these. Which one’s your favourite?
March has been an intense but very blessed month. After a year of pre production, I went on my first National Geographic assignment. A lifelong dream come true! Can’t wait for when it’s finally out sometime next year!
I photographed the cover story for the Jan & Feb issue of Selamta, the Ethiopian Airlines in flight magazine ft Samburu’s elephant guardians. If you’re on an ET flight soon, would love for you to check it out! If not, you can read the story on the link below: 👇🏾
So you need to get a reimportation certificate from customs before leaving Kenya with equipment but when you get to the office they’re asleep and the “system isn’t working”… 🤦🏾♂️
Today, a close family friend is being laid to rest with very few family & friends by his side. That was yesterday’s 10th confirmed Covid 19 death. A man of great character & supportive to those around him, he was bound to attract hundreds on his final journey....

Flamingos taking flight above the saline alkaline waters of Lake Logipi in Northern Kenya. Photographed from a doors off R66 Turbine heli. Such a thrilling experience to see these beautiful birds flying up close.
Finished my Finnish adventure! 🙌🏾 Had one of the best experiences of my career over the past one month. Will be sharing them over on my IG soon. For now, time for some rest and some much needed sleep!
So 1 month was all we needed to shut the country down, borrow & now we’re back to business? No capacity building for hospitals to ensure this doesn’t happen again? Make it make sense.
Turned up at immigration with an envelope full of support documents. Guy asks for my passport and what I’m carrying in the envelope. I reply, “Extra documents in case you need them.” He looks at me and laughs then processes me in 2 mins & I’m free to go. Welcome to America.
