I bought one of the IULs being pushed on TikTok. I got the policy in the mail, read all 90 pages, and did the math. I found 44% of my premiums were being eaten by fees. Over the course of 40 years the IUL cash value would underperform an index fund by 82%.

Dollar cost averaging isn't BAD. Even though lump sum wins 71% of the time (in the scenario 20 year, 12 month scenario), the average performance is only 4% better total over the 20 years, or about 0.25% per year. Not devastating.

1. This is not what the late, great Bogle said. He said corporate governance *could* become a concern. 2. Active funds chronically underperform index funds, so why shift back? 3. Ironically, $TSLA was a big beneficiary of being added to S&P index funds in 2020 (~$80B inflow).

@pegobry @pmarca Exactly. Right before he died, Jack Bogle (of Vanguard fame) said index/passive funds were too great a percentage of the market and he really knew what he was talking about! There should be a shift back towards active investment. Passive has gone too far.
