Does anyone else need like an hour of silent time after getting home from work? Don’t talk to me, let me just cope and recover for an hour then I’ll be back to my normal self.

COVID is EVERYWHERE in our children’s hospital. These kids are SICK. Also fun fact: we’re seeing a lot of young kids with bradycardia, junctions rhythms and heart blocks. Like 0-6 month olds with heart rates in the 50-60s.

One of my patients needed a bath today, I wasn’t that busy so I did it. Had a nursing student with me and she asked if that was a nursing skill and why the nursing assistant didn’t do it. Excuse me- it’s a human skill, if you have time care for your patients. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Last night a med student kept coming up to me asking GREAT basic questions. I taught him how to: feed and change a baby, soothe a withdrawal baby, swaddle, and how to silence a pump right. Don’t forget to ask about the basics!!! These are important too friends.

I think the thing im most sick of with COVID is doing everyone else’s jobs. We’re supposed to limit exposures in the room so the nurse is now not only doing their own tasks, but expected to do everyone elses. 1/

Got our patient surveys back from the whole peds hospital from the past year and among my favorite complaints are: 1. We don’t have coke. 2. Why do you only have diet soda? 3. The admission questions were annoying. 4. We bother them too much. 5. A mom had to feed her own kid.

I work with immunosuppressed kids. It’s 100% better for them if I call in sick when I’m ill. Yes, it could leave my team short but I’d rather do that then get a kiddo even more sick. It’s a double edged sword, what edge are you on? In reality we need better staffing.
